Hi to all of you guys.
I've completed the game on normal difficulty with a barbarian and a necromancer, but after reading different build guides on this site I want to go all the way throug Hell with a more solid untwinked character. It seems though that a lot of builds depend heavily on high end equipment.
It's not clear yet what class I will choose, it's a great game and all the classes are interesting (including barb and necro). So could you give me some pointers to the best untwinked builds for different classes, please?
Thanks.
EDIT: A quick related question. Magic Finding seems to be an interesting and useful style of play, but is it fun or tedious overall?
Of course I mean character builds that are convenient for MF.

The best advice I can give is to read through the Mat/Pat sticky. Every build with an * next to it is untwinkled. Should give you some very good ideas.
Welcome to the SPF.
The answer to your question depends on 1) your patience and 2) your playstyle.
If you check the Mat/Pat/Guardian Sticky at the top of this forum, there are lots of untwinked builds in there. (* means untwinked).
Now many of those are Tourney characters so no ATMA either. Using the Single Pass MF Guides one and two in the SPF FAQ and patience, it shows what gear you can walk away with.
Mursilis has done a good overview of starting characters - also in the Stickies along with other build guides. I'd start with Mursilis and the Mat/Pat/Guardian threads.
For simple, untwinked but not necessarily quick - Fishymancer. Guess where the link is?![]()
I would suggest trapsin (synergized lightning sentry and fire blast as a backup, with few points in shadow master).
Easy even untinked, a lot of fun, I bet you would like it
And don't be afraid, really very few builds depend on high end equipment, majority of builds could be played by not so rich people![]()
i you choose the right barb build, (conc barb for me) you can do hell pretty well untwinked since you have such huge defence and a high survivability. i based my first one arround the conc barb guide (by hal?) on the stratagy compedium. the only problem is doing (really) decent damage without realy high end weapons, at least you don't die tho eh?
Quickest untill a Hell Fallen that you missed CE on rezzes up and 2 shots you while you are focused on cursing a pack which is on the edge of the screen..:P Yes I am speaking from personal experience. Untwinked sometimes leaves you with lack of defense/block
My vote would be Fishymancer or a Meteorber. I find Fishymancers can get a little boring, but it is entirely up to how you like to play.
I'm gonna have to agree with nightfish, not much stops/slows down a fishy, unless you fall asleep waiting for your minions to kill a boss before merc has cb. I've uninstalled D2 a couple times for various reasons, and my first character when i restart is always a fishymancer.
@shaded: he might not do much damage, but the beauty of clay golem is you can put him where you need him and he'll save you. ah, 1 point wonders.
Grishnakh I know but due to the rather repetitive and monotonus play of a fishy, I tend to zone out a little sometimes haha. More of me not noticing that the little bugger was even there
