New Barbarian Just Starting Out

So, I want to be a Barbarian, and I'd like to PvP someday, so I'm just wondering, what should I be focusing on as I go through the game? I've read like every single guide I could find on the Whirlwind Barb, but absolutely none of them give any help on what you should do as your going through the game (besides when to put points in skills).

I don't have any other characters, this barbarian is truely my only character, so I'm not going to be able to use any of the "twinking" equipment like Sigs or anything like that. I've got nothing. So, taking a look at the sticky for IK Barbs, I decided on being an IK barbarian. Any help or advice (especially on equipment, using maces by the way), would be greatly appreciated!

Barbs need good weapons to get though hell. Untwinked I'd keep on the lookout for high ed rares, and maybe hope to make a cheap CB weapon (black, strength or similar).

That being said I'm not really an expert on barbarians

Note that you'll need high end gear for PvP, IK will not do.

Oh, I'm well aware of that, I'm probably not going to be doing any PvP for a while. I recently required the whole Sigons set after someone was generous enough to give a few Pgems (I got really lucky though, cuz some of the people I tried to trade with were really...weird...some denied trading, then just gave it for free for no explicable reason).

Anyways though, I'm taken care of actually for all levels up to level 30, but after that, I'm gonna have to start gathering some IK gear right? How do I go about doing that?
