Hi guys I'm hoping you can help me out.
I've been playing D2 on and off for about 3 years now. It comes in bursts often with months between playing then I get the urge and come back again.
First off I leveled a trapsin to level 85. Had a lot of fun but decided that was as far as i wanted ot take her so then i stopped. Just recently i made a LF/CS Amazon. Shes currently level 45 and cruising through Nightmare like a hot knife through butter (CS just rocks for boss killing).
However all this lightning based damage is getting a bit repetative. I'm wondering what to make thats a change of scenery.
A few things about the way I play I guess are in order. I dont have the facilities to mule items from one character to another so they all play untwinked and independantly. I also dont really go online. I tend to just play single player.
Also I never aim to get to level 99. Generally I stop in the mid to late 70s/early 80s. That usually works out around the end of Act1 Hell or just the end of Expansion Nightmare. Like i said i play D2 in bursts and that doesnt often allow for getting tha far into Hell. I just get bored =P.
So the couple of ideas I'm toying with are:
Posion based Necro. Bone based builds too arent out of the question. I would rather try and avoid a pure summoner based build though. Having 20 points in skele mastery for meat shields is cool but for some reason the idea of just relying on a mass of mobs to do my dirty work just doesnt do it for me.
Meteorb Sorc. Read a lot about them but never leveled one.
Any other type of Sorc that doesnt rely on lightning damage
So anyone got any thoughts on what woud work best around early hell/ late nightmare? Some builds shine much later than others. And also due to the unlikely event of me playing on hell much i wont get the best kit in the game.
Of course if i really enjoy it then i will go onto and play in hell. I just have a short attention span
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
Arise to a new challenge and succumb to the darkside.
Take a trip into the world of Azeroth.
Grinding sucks. Play Fallout 3, gore to the extreme ^_^
Try a meteorb, more colors than a LF/CS zon :P and once you get FO, you'll rip through normal/NM/early hell
hehe I actually play wow >.<
When I get bored of it I play D2, when i get bored of D2 i play wow, when i get bored of both i turn my PS3 on. Its a viscious circle.
Been looking at some youtube clips of meteorb Sorcs and they do do a crapton of damage which is just the way i like it
Might as well make both i guess and see which i prefer as i go.

You also may want to consider downloading Atma or GoMule, so you can save items and transfer them between characters. A huge benefit for Single Player types - check out the stickied thread in the Single Player forum.

I've read a bit about Atma but i was a little concerned it wasn't legal.
Call me foolish or nieve (spelling?).
Will check it out as it could well make my life a ton easier
BTW for the record: Gonna go with a bone/poison necro. One or the other. No real idea why but after some research the idea of blowing corpses up and cursing things to oblivion sounds more like my cup of tea.
Thanks for all the replies

You've decided, but consider this for your next character:
Well, you're picking builds that are easy when playing untwinked. If you want a challenge (read: fun), then play a physical damage character. Especially melee characters have a different set of challenges than do casters. Act One of hell will be very difficult without a decent weapon though.
About summon necros, the skellies don't actually do much killing at higher levels, they just serve as meat shields. This allows you to ignore things like defense, block, and (to some degree) resists. You might consider a poison/summon hybrid.
I've played 3 or 4 meteorbs, and it is one of my favorite characters. I highly recommend it.
Following up on Snick's ideas, making a Poison necro can still use some summons without relying on anything. The one I made before my restart was going to max all the poison damage it could, but still have about 15 hard points invested in skellies and the mastery. It makes for great survivability but ensures your poison and corpse explosion are doing all the damage.
Good luck anyhow! Maybe we'll see ya in the Single Player Forum!![]()
