Haven't heard of it, no. Sounds delicious though!
Mmm.. Pink slime..
Yep pink slime is awesome stuff.
Anyway played through the Beta last night (thanks to an Anonymous person) with a WD my thoughts in the spoiler box (warning WoT).
1) The voice acting is pretty bad, well specifically the templar and the skeleton king. The templar annoys me and I am not sure why, but the skeleton king just sounds so try hard and like a cheesey bad guy. The thing that annoyed me the most was the whole "you dare to bring the warmth of life into my tomb". It seems to me that while they were writing the script they went "I know lets use what he said in the D1, does anybody remember how it goes?" "I don't remember exactly but there was something about warmth of life in his tomb. Lets just make it up as we go a long no one will notice ...."
2) The graphics are pretty good, particular outside. The cathedral however, reminded me a lot of torchlight which is not necessarily a bad thing, just funny. It would have been nice if the new tristram architecture had been a bit more gothic in style, but that is relatively minor. Surprisingly the red outline did not annoy me at all like it does in screenshots. I guess you don't really notice it at all.
3) The skill bar. I know it has been done to death, but man it is confusing. I have not been keeping up with developments, so don't know what the different skills are or what they do. I spent a few minutes looking at the in game system before i gave up .....
4) Locked skill tabs, I sort of understand why they do this (make you get used to casting 1 / 2 spells and slowly add additional), but it was really annoying when I wanted to see what new skills did as I had to rebind the skills, wait 30 seconds for the cool down, try it out, decide I don't like it and switch back .....
I know I have sounded really negative, but on the whole I actually really enjoyed it. I just think there are some minor annoyances . I liked combat, it was fast paced and a little strategic, i can see that this will get even better in the harder difficulties. I liked the different rune effects, though I am worried that the rune effects that are unlocked at the end game will be much better than the earlier game ones, so everyone will be using a similar variation on the same skills. I liked the fact the WD (which is a casting class) has a spell he can cast nonstop in the early game, much nicer than D2 where you need to melee. I also like that all the skills appear to be based on weapon damage.
Overall it was fun, but there were a few things I did not enjoy. That said I did play nonstop for a couple of hours to finish the beta last night .
If it is the skeleton king you seek then you will have to fight your way past JONDAR!
My biggest complaint is the UI it is atrocious it is a partial saving grace that you get used to it after awhile, I guess. And at least once you are half way to max level all the slots will be unlocked so it will be even more of a non issue. Did you turn on elective mode?
I didn't notice the speech with the Sk probably because I have not played D1 since it was released. Are you going to mess with any of the other classes? If you liked the WD give the wizard a try.
@Muggs: I am sure there is a comparison of D1 SK with D3 SK somewhere on youtube. I did have elective mode on and TBH the actual interface (skill bar etc.) is not too bad. It is the skill tab that is horrendous. I guess I will be using third party skill planners in the future (so much for you will not need to go to third part sites). I actually kind of understand why it is the way it is, but it could have been done so much better. I am pretty sure with 10 minutes in paint I could come up with something more functional. The worst part is they claim it is "good for noobs" but this is the first time I have seen D3 since it was announced (and / or the character intros) and I found it absolutely abysmal.
I only played the WD as it is the class that interests me most and I only had ~ 2 hours last night. I plan on playing every character through once and that will be enough beta for me (maybe).
I never saw the patch 12.
Console users can use the skill system in Mass Effect, surely they could do something like that?
