I'vr visited this board a lot and for a long time. Now it's time for my first post I guess.
I play a lvl90 summoner with Iron golem made of Insight. Works great as long as I stay out of Chaos sanctuary to avoid that lovely iron maiden.
But if I make Insight out of a normal polearm instead of an elite. Then less damage is returned. Any chance he will survive iron maiden that way?
Depends a lot on what level your Golem Mastery is. If it's a high-level Golem Mastery then it might work. That said, CS isn't a very good place for Necros to venture considering the mass of Poison and Fire immune monsters there, meaning that the vast majority of your damage will actually be coming from CE's physical half and that's not so hot.
I have no problems with clearing CS since I'm usually "mf-ing" alone with this Necro. But if the golem dies every other game it gets too expensive. So then I'll have to give up CS. Too bad in that case cause I like doing CS-runs. Just found a normal polearm, 4os. Soon I'll know how it works.
Adding points to IronGolem gives higher defense but GolemMastery increases life. I guess damage returned from IM is physical? Not sure if higher defense is better than more life?
This Insight golem idea didn't hit me until I was around lvl88. So I just added 1 point to Golem mastery (lvl 17 with +skills).
Oh, my. This is probably gonna end up with me starting a new Necro...
Iron Maiden will kill any physical damage dealing minion you have, real fast, even with low, low damage. I've made insights with a normal voulge (21 base damage) but it still does some serious damage to the user. An Iron Golem does significantly less damage than a Merc with it for example, but he's got limited life and you can't heal him at all. You can only teleport or use terror to get him out of a jam. Even then, in the Chaos Sanc, he'll just get roasted by some fire sometimes anyways. There's just no easy way around it; if it deals physical damage, it can be killed via Iron Maiden fast.
I do chaos runs with my Necro.. (In fact I try to solo every thing with my necro) but the 6 times damage return (random estimate because level 10 Iron Maiden returns like 3-4 times damage) is a 2 hit kill on my skellies, one hit kill on merc (i normally unequip his polearm), and my iron golem too. But the second I hear the droning sound of IM I teleport away etc. I almost never run with my summoner.
Don't run chaos (infact don't run most runs if you want to be efficient) without making your first enigma.
You might want to consider an item with Cloak of Shadows charges as it prevents those curses from being cast.
Oblivion Knights cannot be blinded. You will still see the overlay, but this is because Cloak of Shadows also applies -% (Enhanced) Defence, which does apply to them.

Oblivion Knights cast level 3 Iron Maiden (250%) in Normal, level 6 (325%) in Nightmare and level 10 (425%) in Hell. However, this is reduced to 1/4 against players i.e. 62.5%, 81.25% and 106.25% in the respective difficulties. I haven't confirmed it, but that reduction may also apply to the player's hireling and pets.
