When someone says that they have an "up'd item", what does that mean?
How can you use the cube to socket an item?
How many sockets will it add?
How many sockets does Larzuk's quest add?
Where is the best place to farm for high runes?
What is the best character class to use to farm those high runes assuming I can't afford Enigma?
Does Ladder reset once a year, or once a quarter, or what?
I'm sure I'll come up with more questions later.
Unique and rare weapons can be "upped" using the Cube. Basically this means the stats on those items remains the same however the base item is increased from normal --> exceptional--> elite
Cube recipes for that found here.
See cube recipes given above. This will add a random number of sockets to the item up to it's allowed maximum amount. To find out how many sockets an item can have see answer below
That quest will always give the maximum number of sockets the item can have, regardless of which level (Normal, NM, Hell) the quest is in.
The Arreat Summit gives the maximum number of sockets per item. However it is dependent on the ilvl of the item itself whether it can have the same number of sockets as described on the Arreat Summit. For example if your normalize a cracked Archon Plate it won't get 4 sockets, but 3 instead. Also, where the item dropped is important.
Area level chart
Note: unique/champion/minion monsters have higher mlvl which could increase the ilvl
champion +2
minion +3
unique +3
That depends on if you play Bnet or SP. If SP then the Lower Kurast superchests are the best place to look for HRs. In both you can also Hellforge rush to get low HRs and cube them up. Beyond that look for Hell areas with lots of monsters you can kill quickly (cows, Flayer Jungle, Act IV).
Anything that kills extremely quickly.
It's random. When the plan on doing so an annoucement would be placed on the Blizzard website. Until that happens, assume they don't intend to reset.
Thanks for your help man, that is great. Here is one other question for now...
When the ladder resets, is it just what it sounds like. Meaning you lose all your chars/equipment/everything, so you have to start over completely?
When someone says they are going to "send a mule", what does that mean?

When the ladder resets what happens is all of your ladder characters are transfered to the non-ladder realm. They are still playable and have all of their equipment, but ladder only items, runewords and cube recipes no longer work. At that point zero characters exist in ladder, then everyone starts over from scratch. You are not able to transfer anything from non-ladder to ladder.
Sending a mule over is a function of mule trading, rather than drop trading. To mule trade what a person (let's call them person A) does is create another account and one character in that account. Then person A places the item(s) to trade on this character (called a mule) and PMs or whispers the account name/password to the other person involved in the trade (person B). Person B then logs into that account and takes the item(s) there, and replaces it with the item(s) they are trading in return. Person B informs person A they are done, then person A logs back into the account and collects their item(s). When all is said and done person A then changes the password of the mule account for security reasons (such as if they wish to use it for a different trade later).
Mule trading requires a bit of trust on the part of person A (the initial trader). I would not suggest this for anyone you meet on Battle.net, only mule trade with people from this forum. Unless of course the person from Bnet is the one that will go first.
Oh, ok. Sending a mule sounds like a bad idea, lol. One more question.
When your Ladder character gets transfered to Non-Ladder, and lets say your character has a Ladder runeword, will that item just have the attributes that the runes in it have? Like if a shield runeword that was ladder only had Um and Ist which made up a runeword, and that runeword gave an extra 100% enhanced defence as well as what Um and Ist do to the shield, when it got transfered to ladder, the shield would just have the attributes +22 res all and +25%MF or w/e it is?
Thanks for all your answers btw.![]()
When ladder only runewords are transfered to non-ladder, they retain all of their attributes. This is part of the reason at the end of a ladder season people are making tons of ladder only items, as they'll be worth more on non-ladder.
Ah hah, got it. Thanks for helping me out so much. I will post more questions as they come up.
Wow, I never imagined the base item type of stuff could be upgraded. Thanks for asking, AlaskanYeti! Very useful for weapons and armor.
Also that Savage Polearm recipe is pretty cute:
Diamond (any quality) + 1 Staff (any type and quality) + 1 Kris (any quality) + 1 Belt (any type and quality) = Savage Polearm Class Weapon
Great for creating your act 2 merc weapon.
I'll use this thread rather than start a similar one.
1. I created a savage polearm (3 actually) as was very disappointed. My current Gold polarm is MUCH better at raw damage, not to mention the extra attributes. Is this usual?
2. It seems that almost any character can use almost any weapon. A few are limited to a class but most seem classless. Some of the Yellow/Green seem awesome. Should I switch my Amazon to one of these for close in fighting?
3. What good are all these blue/yellow/green items if they rarely(if ever) surpass the weapon I'm carrying? Usually from Act I or II.
Help? Am I missing something?
I'm a home player, not on battlenet. yet....
1. If ur current weapon is better, use it. I'll look at at arreat summit for those suffixes tommorow
2. First you should decide which type of Amazor are you going to play before creating it, because you have spells for Javelin and spears and bow and crossbows. If you for examle are using long bow and multi arrow, than you should not swich to melee weapon untill later when you get skill for it. Yes, amost all weapons are usable except class specific items which are Paladin shields, Assasin Claws, Amazon Javelins/bows, Necromancer Head Shields, Barbarian Helmets, Druid Skin pelts and Sorceress Orbs.
Yellow items are Rare. They get random suffix or preffix depending on monster level and magic find you have and they're always unique (meaning that two of a kind rare items are very unlikely).
Green are set items, meaning that they usually suck by itself, but get bonus attributes when combined with other set item. However it's far better to have each item unique/runeword than completed sets because, let's face it people, set's suck.
3.If youa re low level, and are playing in Normal difficulty setting, you will probably get crappy items untill you're atleast act 4. Magic (blue), Rare and set will almost always be better than normal items (white)
Hope I've been helpfull. If I was incorrect at something, well, I haven't played the damn game for 8 months now![]()
