Effective Ways to Slow with Single Tree Fire Sorc

My friend is currently playing a pure Fire Sorc to go with my Fishymancer and he is almost done maxing Fire Bolt, which will complete his fire side of the build. He's noticed, however, that when running bosses, the speed at which they move can be annoying.

I suggested maybe pumping points into Blizzard to use solely for the slowing effect but is this effective on bosses in hell?

Any ideas on other not TOO expensive ways to achieve this, so when he's doing runs without me, he doesn't feel so fragile?

Kelpie Snare on the merc maybe? Or does he need the mana regen from Insight? Kelpie + Vamp Gaze would slow and chill. Reaper's Toll would both Decrepify and chill.

Isn't holy freeze enough? If it isn't, equip your merc with a kelpie snare.

Never solve temporary problems with unreplacable skill points

Holy Freeze isn't a bad idea.

As far as the skill points, he doesn't really have anywhere else they are needed, that's why I was wondering if that would work.

Holy Freeze is ineffective vs. an act boss though.

Get The Reaper's Toll, it will cast Decrepify on striking, which slows bosses to nothing.

Reaper's is awesome all around, but Kelpie is better for bosses.

Another off the wall idea is FrostNova. Useless damage, but it has a very long chill duration. It's pretty much wasting a skillpoint though.

hes friend can also max Orb and CM if he have a lot of skill points left. That will help a lot.

But then it wouldn't be pure fire anymore.

Another idea is frost nova on an orb on switch. A good idea is getting a war staff/runestaff/archon staff with staffmods you like (like frost nova or shiver armor or es) and 5 sockets. Then make a call to arms in it, and have it one switch. Good luck finding that staff though
