    Patching.

Anyone else have trouble patching D1 after install? I just happened to have saved a backup of the game patched and ready to go, so I am able to play. But when I tried a fresh install, battle.net would not connect to patch, Blizzard's links to the patches are all dead now, and when I did find a site that had a copy of the patch (after registering, confirming, entering the anti-spam code, getting in queue, etc.) when I tried to install the patch it said it could not continue because a required file was missing (forget what it was at the moment, will try again and post if anyone asks).

What will we do in the future as the game gets older and older? Will it become entirely unplayable?

battle.net patch didn't work for me either. I just grabbed a patch from blizzard's site. The second one worked. They have all the patches on blizzard ftp, so that's a safe bet if all else fails.

    Re: Patching.

i had the exact same problem!

    1. bnet would NOT connect to diablo "patch" (original) 1.00 so i could NOT even get 1.09 patch.

    2. i had to manually find and DL (download) the 1.09 patch (if my memory isn't horrible i got mine right from battle.net) and than i went to install it and...

    3. i got that same missing file error and it did NOT install the 1.09 patch.

    SOLUTION:

    4. in my panic, i tried to install the patch again and....ta-da...it worked! it installed and is working great AND i can now connect to bnet !!
