    Re: Gauss members

Just curious, what items was it? I have no idea what that fg means, but I'm guessing it the D2 currency?

It must have been some pretty rare items, if they were worth that much.

Thats great to hear, though i think maybe the damage has already been done.

As for allowing new members, i really think this forum sign up isnt secure enough. There were a few suggestions made in the channel yesterday:

    1) New members on a reccommendation only.

problem with this is its hard for non-gauss members to meet gauss members, since most of gauss dont ever play pubbies.

    2) Another channel for new gauss users, as a "trial period" though i can see numerous drawbacks to this.

    3) Choosing a number of trusted, helpful ops and list their accounts here. People wishing to become members of gauss can msg these ops, and maybe hook up in a few games. You can tell alot about someone by the way they play the game.

drawback for this is obviosly the risk of tppk

Whatever way we choose for welcoming new members, the current option makes me feel very uneasy

The problem with new members is that they take items from you?

If that is the case, why don't you mule with someone you trust 90% instead? But the whole trusting issue is not going to happen any way you do it, I have been a part of a World of Warcraft trading community for alittle over 2.5 years, and when you traded account you would use a middleman (a guy which you both trust), you would then give the accounts to the middleman, he would check that everything was fine, and then he would give you, your new accounts.

The problem here was that even the most trusted middlemen, that had done over 200 trades, was getting tired of the game, and thought, why not just scam a few account, and make some money out of it.

Some accounts would sell for up to 1500 Euro, and with that kind of money, people didnt mind a little work before the big bang.

What I'm trying to say is, even people that are trustworthy, can turn 180 degrees and "scam" someone. I'm not saying you should invite anyone that tell you his name. But a small chat ingame or on MSN will do wonders when trying to figure out what kind of person you are dealing with.

I think youre missing the point. Gauss is supposed to be a "safe" channel, where we trust everyone in there. The current method of acceptance seems to be causing unrest.

Its not only what happened to Koyen. I've been reluctant to participate in baalruns because of some new recruits, who seem like players i dont wish to play with. ie typing .gauss then complaining/leaving channel when there are no runs. I heard, albeit via chinese whispers, so not sure how much is true, that someone was tppk'd in a gauss game.

And yes, if i am muling something of worth (which NEVER happens) i'll wait until someone i trust is online. If its something not too costly, i'll ask in the channel.

But the point remains the same. . . Why have a safe channel that isnt so safe? And i guarentee i'm not alone in requesting a change to the current system

Wow, I really missed out on this one! Good thing I guess or I would have been raging the whole time! Happy ending though so happy days but yes, to avoid children like the thief entering again (his posting style in that clicky was 0mgz0rz!) we need to up the security and fast!

    Re: Gauss members

just a few quick notes (im at work and in kind of a hurry)
    - i hear you! we will make the registering tighter
    - no system can make the channel safe, people must do this -> YOU!
    - there are quite some comments about people misbehaving, DO SOMETHING when it happens. Meaning
    - if someone spams .gauss and whines no baalruns -> timeban him
    - if someone grabs -> say it and timeban him
    - if you hear that someone stole HUNT THAT *SS DOWN as we did
    - if you dont have the right to timeban, get it from me!

Registering of new users will be among these lines:
    - only through the forum
    - only if decent post and at least 100 posts, or decent post and recommendation

And, guys: gauss was and is safe, though of course not as safe as playing with 7 other guys you know, in the sense that you can walk up to the other and kick them if they misbehave.

If you want to keep it that way, i would recommend following a famous quote:

    "who if not me
    when if not now
    where if not here"
