Let's hope so...there are only a few things that I can remember about Diablo I, as I never really liked it:

- The Butcher
- Hyrda's
- The big D himself

I always liked the butcher
It was actually hard to kill them. The best creatures you encounter in Diablo II are, in my opinion:
- Coldcrow (Caves level 1)
- Treehead
- Duriel

For the rest it's just a bunch of noobies

The Tristram Cathedral section on the Diablo 3 website implies that it takes place after the events of Diablo 1, so the wounded adventurer he is speaking to can't be the guy who dies in front of you (butcher quest) in Diablo 1.

We all know the other townsfolk still have their arms attached or are dead, so the person he is referring to is someone we haven't met yet who lived before our hero in Diablo 1 arrived.

Oh, and Abd al-Hazir is interviewing this unknown person about the "old" Tristram...meaning his description of the butcher was from the past -not the present day. (sorry to dissapoint)

Yea its something used to give u a little of a flashback on the first game. I doubt they will include the butcher again in the new game, anyway you never know

Considering you kill the butcher dead as dead in Diablo 1, i doubt the butcher will be back.

like the prime evils,they dont really die,they return to the burning hells

with diablo 3,that would be at least the fourth time he will die(died at the end of the horadrim and sealed under tristram's cathedral,then again and then another time in hell which i have idea how it works)

I almost fell down laughing after seeing that, good times wasnt he... But on topic, I was surprised that the Butcher will be the act 1 Boss after they brought back the Skeleton King.. Starting to think Blizzard is gonna pull a switch a roo on things we know and things we think we know...

Yeah definitely there's a reason for that article. I love how they include stuff from D1 even more so than from D2.

Even if the original Butcher is not there, someone like him will be. I really miss the "AAHH! FRESH MEAT" voice It made me wet my pants when I was just about ten and playing the original Diablo. Well not really, but close.

I know the feeling. We were passing turns with friend like: "you play", "no it's your turn."

Supposedly Gharbad the Strong is confirmed, and he'll even have an extra head. Resurrected/sewn onto a living Goatman and really pissed off at the turn of events in the first game, perhaps? If they can bring back one iconic bad guy I'm sure they can bring back another.
