The runes are low enough, so I thought I'd test out the CtC Valk. I tried it on a Ranger first, and then on a no-passives BowZon; in the Durance and the first area of A4 (Steppes?) of Normal.
Well, 2% on a Ranger sucks. By the time it finally triggered, I realized I had to make a trip to town. It 'died' in town as soon as got through the portal. Alright, that sucked, let's try it again. Entered Durance 3, it finally triggered on Meph himself, but didn't really seem to make a noticable difference (A2 merc was already tanking). I was able to take the armor off, and she stuck around... Hmmm, maybe this could be useful after all. Entered A4, she decided to join us right away (twice even!), leveled up, and as soon as I spent that skill point, she 'died'. What the hell??!?
2% on a strafer? Great. She's always around. But placing her becomes a problem. One second she's tanking a mob on the right (blue armor), and then all of a sudden she's standing in front of a single monster way off screen on the left (red armor), and the mob comes right at me. Later, I had my inventory open, and drank a minor potion (when did I pick that up?) to make room for something else. Bam, she's gone. Again, what the hell, there's no one anywhere near us!?! A couple minutes later I open the inventory to move a stack of arrows onto my weapon slot, have some extra, put them onto another stack in the inventory, and she 'dies'.
At least this is Normal and I've got KB, so I'm not in any danger, but this will just not work in Hell. The +2 to skills is fantastic for the level, but there are far better armors to use than this, +skills be damned.
The other mods?
CtC Slow Missiles: They were both ranged characters, so I don't think I saw SM trigger once, they just don't get hit that often.
+2 CS: It's alright, 25% on the Ranger, 38% on the Zon (49% with +3 skills from other sources: SoJ, rare amy, Peasant Crown). But not really important on elemental damage, which is primarily what I'm going for.
Shael and Thul aren't terrible, but the Amn is an absolute waste, even on a melee character.
Anyone else ever use this armor? Or any of the other 1.11 RWs? (besides Treachery :rolleyes
...If I can find a few spare Um runes I'm considering putting Bone on my Zon... 135-143 magic damage FTW!:grin:
