Guards! Guards! is book 8 and doesn't require having read previous books, which is helpful. It's not too wonky to be put off, and if you decide to read the previous 7 books after all that's fine and won't give you any bother.
And I know that contract situation, a year ago we were all on the brink of being fired and the chance was my school I work at was going to be discontinued. Very demotivating. I just continued to work, it did depress me and worry me and I got quite gloomy, but I have a great job and working with children's books as I do is always fun, so it kept me going.
Did my best, just worked hard and efficient, always kept me head down and now I'm the only one left in the team. The rest either retired or left with drama because they found 'mselves so overly important.
My job's pretty secure now except the risk of something happening to the way our school is organized (a likely possibility btw).
My superiors never joked about the chance of me losing my job. They did tell me it was unlikely and if, everyone else would have to go too, but it could happen.
I get about 7 hours every night usually. Only got about 6 last night though, and it was a bit tough to get going this morning.
I'm a little disappointed that your avatar is not of a bike LoZ! I don't hardly recognize you anymore!
Glad your situation all worked out, viv, and that you now have a more secure job.
I'll take a look at that book then. But even if it's not required to start with the first book, I like to do just that. Guess even though what others say, I want to be absolutely certain I didn't miss out on anything.
Indeed it's not easy to stay motivated, but atm I try to do so by learning some new stuff and working in the area in which I was asked if I wanted more responsebility.
Oh I didn't mean exactly joking about losing my job. We have this list at work where each week a new person have the tasks in the kitchen. Cleaning our coffee machine, putting cups and plates into the washing machine and all the jazz. Anyway I was looking at the list when she walked by, and I sort of made a comment about not being on the list. My supervisor seemed almost puzzled by it, so I said it's probably because my contract is soon over. So she said something along the lines of "Well at least you'll get out of kitchen duty". She followed it up by saying I didn't need to worry about the contract or loose any sleep over it though.
Still I can't help being worried. But the contract has been extended with a month. We'll see what happens then.
I usually never get more than 6 hours of sleep. Guess I like torturing myself.![]()
"At least you don't have to clean the kitchen" lol, jerk!
I like ma sleep! If I don't get that much I am not a happy camper.
My wife's parents' camper got attacked by a bear this weekend while camping ... n00bs!
But there's a little bit of truth behind every joke, that's what makes them funny.
I can't deny that. The joke's funny, because I do indeed get away from kitchen duty, and my contract was extended by a month.
Downside? I have to wait another 3-4ish weeks before I know if I can get it renewed again or not.
But if it keeps only getting extended by a month, you may never have to clean the kitchen again. Then again you may go clinically insane from no sleep.
True on both accounts.
I currently have my hopes on getting the contract extended by either half a year from Sept or until end of the year.
Up until now the contract has been renewed on a 6 month basis, but considering we have a job opening that expires Sept 9th, I could take over a co-workers contract which lasts until end of the year if he gets the job.
That would be nice. I'm sure that they will come to they're senses and write you a new contract soon enough. Can't let a great employee like korial slip away!
