Exile vs HOZ

If this has been brought up countless times - I'm sorry, but I must bring it up again. :azn::azn:

I have a Fanatic Zealot which I use for ubers, along with my hammerdin friend who helps. His gear is as follows:

Guillaume's Face
Grief Phase Blade
Duress Archon Plate
Upp'ed HOZ with pdiamond
Draculs
Verdungo's
Raven Frost + Manald Heal
Gore Riders

I'm pretty proud of him and I've done the ubers and the mini ubers many times with my friend who uses a hammerdin. He helps w/ crowd control, IM, and salvation while I pound the Three into oblivion.

I'm wondering what I should save up for next, and I considered the use of an Exile. The insane defense bonus and the lifetap look really nice. But I think the main thing is the lack of 20 or so resists if made in a perfect 45 resists all eth bugged pally shield. My gear setup already lacks resists, but I don't need Treachery because when lifetap is up, my health is always at full. The problem is getting lifetap to trigger which usually requires about 1-3 full rejuv quaffs per boss, depending on my luck. Exile will pretty much take lifetap needs out of the question. Defense is a free bonus. But will I miss those 20 or so resists, as well as the skills that Hoz gives me?

You aren't suppose to try and wait for the lifetap to trigger you are suppose to start by casting lifetap from a lifetap charge wand and then refreshing it with the lifetap on dracul's/exile

And as for why you don't use treachery why don't you? You know you don't wear it while you fight the ubers you just wear it and go stand in some fire until you get the fade, then you take it off and go kill the ubers.

LOL, I'm too lazy to shop for a lifetap wand and too lazy to switch and use it anyway. :P

Also I used to use treachery but I found that I could still last long enough for lifetap to trigger and once it does I'm pretty much invincible as long as I don't get one hit killed (grief PB, remember). Basically I'm wondering if exile is worth getting over HOZ as far as ubers and pvm are concerned. And if so, what base should I make it in?

If you really can't be bothered to do Treachery for res then I'd suggest splashing out on some resist charms. They'll make a much greater difference to your survivability against 1-hit KOs, since your resists probably suck currently. Lifetap can't prevent you from dying if the damage being done to you in a single hit exceeds the amount of life you have left. You are switching to salvation before fighting Mephi, right?

That said, the increased chance of lifetap from Exile will help too, and if you get a good one (45 all res Sacred Targe, won't be cheap/easy to self-find) the resist loss is workable. You do need to sort your resists, though.

I'd for sure get exile for ubers, can't imagine doing them with out it. As for your resists, I would use treachery for doing ubers if you die too much. The hdin will probably want to have concentration on instead of salvation so he can actually kill the minions

Switch your armor to CoH if you are worried about resists. Or socket that guillaumes and get Um or 15 res jewel. That way you lose less of the nice bonuses from Duress.

Well I don't see why you would need Exile at all to do Ubers. My Zealot uses an Um'ed HoZ. He doesn't use Treachery, he doesn't have a lifetap wand, yet I've done trist with him (using 1 pt smite ofc) many times, and never experienced trouble. Never takes more than 2.5 minutes to kill all three.

Also, My pally has Salvation himself, and has full res in hell at all times, so I use Salvation to do Meph, and then switch to Fanaticism for the others.

I've been thinking about making an Exile for some time, but I must say that I don't feel the need for it anymore. My Zealot pwn quite everything in hell in seconds (except IM knights, but Windforce handles 'em quite well), and I've never experienced trouble whatsoever, so hnestly I don't see why Exile is an absolute must. HoZ does very well imo. Sure, Exile might be better, but you lose a lot of res in comparison to Um'ed HoZ, and for me, Dracs do the job of casting Life Tap just fine.

To be honest, i think that Exile is only good for its defence, and PvP. My Smiter uses LastWish-PB & Dracs and i have no problem what so ever with the lifetap doing ubers. Exils is not worth lacking the plus to skills, and -30 to res (i put an Um Rune in my HoZ) JUST to get more Lifetap when i get Lifetap in the 1st five hits or less. With Fanaticism on those first 5 hits happen pretty quick so potions for me are useless for me unless i need a mana from Baal doing his mana-burn. Side tidbet/question, some people say that an Ethereal-Vortex Exile does more overall Smite damage than an Upgraded-HoZ, is this true or no? Does it depend on the Aura and weapon, since i have Lastwish?

Exile is still not very good for Uber trist. The only reason why I do Um HoZ and COH is to minimize the amount of resist charms I carry. Also because I don't use torch for ubers.

In the end torch for ubers was rarely needed anyway.
