Hi
I was wondering to start a MP game. I presume all here are non-battle.net-players and only play Single Player as my-self. How do you play then? I only know two ways. However I think none of them are acceptable here (hamachi and battle.lan). I have only tested one of them (battle.lan) but I've heard Hamachi is better.
So my question is what do you use for programs when you SP's play a MP? As soon as I get a good answer you'll see a thread here started by me.
I already say now what mods are legal and so on (I will also mention it in thread-name)
I use only RWM (Rune Word Mod) so I'm able to make ladder-runewords. RRM is a mod I don't know anything of so I won't accept it, for now aor maybe never (when I host and/or join).
MP Guide. Link in my sig.
RRM is very nice, it turns the names of the runes red when you hold down alt to see whats available. exactly like sets are green, uniques are gold, runes will be red.
The MP guide in Thyiads sig has all the info you need. Just for the record, you dont need a "program" (also, these would be highly illegal), Diablo 2 has a tcp/ip system build into it. Thats what people use to MP
EDIT: also, you said you wouldnt "accept" RRM, if you mean you wont MP with people with RRM, your gonna have a tough(er) time. Also, ive seen you plan on doing some trading, so most of the items you will get will be RWM/RRM, so id recommend switching over to both. There arent many RWM only players. This doesnt mean you have to use RRM, but as soon as you interact with it you are considered as using it.
I thought RRM was a mod for easier finding runes xD my mistake, ofc RRM will be accepted now. See how easy I can change my mind ::grin:
Edit: Yeah I've found them eventually but after I went to study some homework that I forgot to close this. But this TCP/IP system, does it works like you playing over hamachi/battle.lan. The funny thing is that I have both original but some of my friends don't thats why we have to use them, but if theres a way not to ofc we'll try it ^^
It's often commented that it makes it easier, that comes from the fact that they are red, its easier to see them, whereas you could pass them over accidentally if it were white still.
it does not, however, affect drop probabilities.
not that hard to get confused.
TCP/IP works like this- One computer hosts the game, then tells the others his/her IP adress, then they join that address. The host cannot leave, and a fast computer should be used to host. Its kinda like battle net only instead of a server, the host acts as the server.
i dont know anything about the programs you listed. There is also open battle.net, which you could use, as long as you are careful and only let other legit players (i.e. forum members) join your games (password them). This is built into the game as well. --> not sure how well it will be recieved by the trading community though.
Open bnet characters/items aren't accepted in the trade/MP pool.
How do you know if a player/character are from open bnet?
