Hey all,
I currently have a fishymancer on useast and i feel id rather use the Darkforce than the Homoc. I know 99% of people use the homoc but want to know why everyone thinks its so special? I mean id rather Um the Darkforce for FCR Skills And res(Um). If anyone has opinions on what they use and why it would be greatly asppreciated!
Thanks all
1) max block
2) resists
3) price / availability
I think 1 and 2 are the most important.
1) High chance to block, makes hitting 75% block easy.
2) Faster block rate, blocks repeated attacks super fast.
3) High resists.
4) Not too rare, so you get a really great shield for a few pgems.
Yes I understand the Resist but like i saisd i will probably get a darkforce and Um it i dont plan on maxing block on my skelliemancer however
darkforce is a tc87. and the skill varies. you may get a poor roll, or a good one. all based on luck.
homunculus can be dropped earlier in the game, more common and the stats are always the same except for the defense roll.
At 59% res all (w/PDiamond), only the Wizard Spike and 4PDiamond shield (IIRC) will give more resists in a single item. So if you need resists, then Homu is the only choice.
Or, if you’re going max block, and want a “no-switch” setup, then Homu is the only choice.
Other than that, it depends on how the rest of the item’s skills (basically just +Curses and Mana/Energy), and strenght/level requirements fit into your build.
The +Curses is not important for a Fishy. And with an Insight merc, all the Mana/Energy is redundant.
The critical factor for me is the strength req. DarkF requires 48 more strength than Homu. Which equates to 96 life. And that is the main reason I wouldn't build around a DarkF. (I play HC only and have never built a Fishy with more than 58 strength.)

Homu also has some helpful mana regen and +2 necro skills and +2 to curses, +40 all rez, FBR, good block and decent defence. This makes this shield better than any other necro head. Too bad it hasnt FCR![]()
Yes, you get 15 resists with um, but um by itself is already more pricey. Getting 59 of your resists from homun makes the rest of your gear more flexible.
little nitpick=P
um in shields give 22 resist all. still not worth it though =P
I play a 0dex vitamancer in some half decent gear and you'd be suprised how often I block anyways. Granted, I tele everywhere, but still! I think I've got like 54 dex total from items and I hear that little clanking noise all the time!
