According to this.
That can be interpreted various ways. According to that article, whites will be a minority in 2050 because they'll be down to 49% of the total population, while the Asians (9%), Hispanics (29%) and Blacks (13%) together will add up to 51%. That will still make whites the biggest chunk of colorless flesh in the U.S. as far as I can see when compared to any of those individually. Or looking at it another way, every ethnic group, including whites, will now be a minority.
I thought whites were already the minority.
Kidding..
Border patrol? Border patrol.
Isn't that a little misleading since whites will still (according to those stats) be the biggest chunk of the groups that make up the total population?
We just have to ally with the really white hispanics and we will be set til 2100. Then we take in the asians. If we play our cards right we wont have to listen to the plights of the black community before the sun explodes.
I remember hearing that statistic years back - and I agree... it is somewhat misleading in nature.
In terms of a cumulative number, yes, whites will be in the minority. However, there are other factors that will come into play as well - notably: power and control and socio-economic status as a whole. My guess is that even in 2050 we'll still probably see a disproportionate number of minorities in poverty over whites.
I do have to admit that I'm intrigued to see how things shift socially though as demographics start to shift.
I imagine at some point there will likely be a Quebec-ish type of scenario unfold in the U.S. with the whole Spanish/English as a primary language issue.
Not worried. Who cares what race is the majority (or even a plurality)?
My only concern is that my Spanish has gotten a bit rusty since high school, but that shouldn't be a problem as long as the change is gradual.
