I have a Zeal/Smiter w Grief and was looking for a decient switch weapon for PI's. Someone suggested Lawbringer. My questions is what is the best weapon/class to make runeword. Or does it really matter? Last, just found holy water sprinkler with +2 to zeal and 3os, is this worthy of making the rune word? thx
Scepters, swords or hammers... Well, scepters with decent mods (I have one with +2 Fanaticism, if you really want to trade for it) will not only cost you in trade, if you don't find it, but still cost you in repair. The one I have requires an Ort, although if you only Smite it should never drop below 1 durability. Hammers are damn slow, and without off-weapon IAS you'll probably be punished, literally. (On a side note, without IAS or EDam on the weapon, making it a War Hammer/Maul/Great Maul makes no sense.) Swords can't use cutlasses, so you're probably better off with a phase blade for end gear, assuming you can still give it to an act three mercenary. It can still be used by a non-pure lightning build, like the Avatar (Zenics want Crescent Moon since they're all lightning), and keep a decent amount of its trade value. That's what I eventaully did, though I still need work on my melee gear.
Phase blade is your best bet. A 3 open socket one is cheap, a few pgems is all that will cost. Hit the trade forum for it. The reason is the speed. The point is to not have physical damage, and so you want it to go very quick (phase blade is the fastest), you want it to not break (they're indestructable) and you want the REQs to work with you (if you are zealing, you likely have the Dex to use a Phase Blade already anyways).
That way you will trigger Decrep really fast, you will have the non-physical damage applied much faster, and ultimately do the most damage you can.
Alternative, just make Passion in any high damage single hander that works with the word, and make use of that awesome +1 Berserk it has, which will certainly kill PI's.
Does anyone have an idea which rune word would have more damage to a PI monster if they were in a phase blade? How vunerable does Berserk make you against a powerful unique?
The +Dam of Grief gives a phase blade the equivalent of +1000%EDam, and the +Dam works with Smite. It's more expensive than Lawbringer, but has 30-40 variable IAS, so you might not need anything outside of Fanaticism to reach 4FPA.
