Hey guys,
I think there's a number of people who ask questions such as: Is Lightning damage from sorc absorbable/blockable/etc.?
So I've decided to make a thread containing all the information on that. Hope you guys find it useful, especially those people who are new to DII:laugh:

Please note that ALL attacks including hammers can be dodged by using Amazon's skills and Assassin's Claw Block
Also note that when I say absorbed, it also works the way Physical damage is reduced by DR&. In other words, when I say absorbed, it doesn't necessarily have to mean "magic" absorb or "elemental" absorb
Sorc:
Fire, Ice and Light
--Absorbable (using rising sun ammy,etc)
--UNblockable
Amazon:
CS/LF Zon
--Absorbable (Using tgods, wisp, etc)
--As for Lightning Bolt, it is 100% Elemental meaning it cannot be blocked. It will always hit
Bowazon
-- Can be blocked
-- Can be absorbed
Assassin:
Trapper
--Lightning damage from Traps CAN be absorbed, but cannot be blocked.
WW Sin
--Physical damage can both be blocked and absorbed
Paladin
Hammerdin
--Cannot be absorbed
--Cannot be blocked
Smiter
--Can be absorbed
--Cannot be blocked
Barbarian
WW barb
--Can be absorbed
--Can be blocked
Necromancer
Bone nec
--Cannot be absorbed

poison damage of any kind cannot be absorbed, but it's still possible to negate it pretty much with antidotes and +% maxres gear such as Gul runes and Andy's face, and/or PLR gear.

I really don't like the use of term "absorb" when it also refers to dr% :smiley:
A few points:
trapper - can't traps be also blocked by claw block? same goes for fireballs, iceblasts etc.
Since you decided to list basic builds and their damage you should include all types of damage a character deals (for example include poison damage in case of ww sins, ww barbs also zerk enemies and berserk is magical damage).
@Moritz - didn't 1.08 lidless have poison absorb?
All in all I am not sure if such a list makes things easier, at it's current state it's rather misleading :smiley:

PS: clawblock cannt block block spells like firewall and the fire from meteor.

Any physical damage can be reduced by dr or pdr.
Any elemental damage can be reduced by resists (coupled with +max resists for further decreasement to a max of 95%). All elemental damage can be absorbed except poison, poison can in turn be reduced further beyond resists by reducing it's duration.
Magic damage can be resisted and absorbed/reduced, but not high enough to negotiate it much at all. Magic damage reduced is a common mod but with low integer values, resist are found on a crafted shield (safety iirc) but only 10% max (iirc), absorb is found on spirit but only max 8 integer points (practically like 16 mdr I guess).
The effect of OW cannot be reduced by any means, it's purely biased on your opponents level.
started writing some more, but only baised on my own knowledge, be it correct or not.
Some specifics:
amazon:
LF contains 2 elements the thrown javelin and added lightning damage, the thrown javelin can be blocked but ignores defense.
LB contains only lightning damage and cannot be blocked.
GA ignores defense, but can be blocked.
D/A/E skills can dodge anything but elemental "damage per second" skills, such as ground fires from firewall or the direct flame of inferno, or aura pulses.
Assassin:
Weapon block can block anything except elemental "damage per second" skills, such as ground fires from firewall or the direct flame of inferno, or aura pulses. Does work in ww animation and while standing still or attacking, but not while running around.
paladin:
smite ignores defense and cannot be blocked.
