Diablo 3

I have been away for a couple years but am probably coming back because I cannot find a game that compels me like Diablo 2.

Am I correctly gathering that no word on Diablo 3 still exists?

Why is Blizzard so horrible to its customers? Why can't they just say something like they have no plans to produce Diablo 3 or that they expect a release date in 18 months?

I will enjoy playing but sinking time into redeveloping high level hardcore characters would be so much more fun with a new game -- all the Diablo 2 clones are such crap.

Correct.

Blizzard's careful about how and when they release games (and patches for that matter). As it stands right now you should not expect D3 for at least another 2 years, because we haven't heard anything about it yet.

Essentially, assume they are not producing it until they actually say they are. Blizzard's already said that they do intend on revisiting the D2 universe in the future, and I interpret this as we will get another Diablo related game, but it's not being developed now. There's nothing else they can really say about it because situations change (eg Blizzard North being shut down) and I think it's better not to let a bunch of rumors going around unless things are absolutely 100% certain (especially after Starcraft Ghost).

That looks pretty interesting. I think I'd give it a chance, but still can't replace diablo.
