I'm not new to Diablo but I have never been able to figure out how the list of open games in Battle.net actually works. It seems the list auto updates every 30 seconds or so. Does the list display random games of the thousands of games active on the realm? Does it sort games for relevance (level, norm/nigh/hell), and is there absolutely no way of searching (if I want to do some cowing it'd be nice to search in all open games for those containing "cow" in the game name for instance).
The games are indeed randomly changed every few seconds... it's a fairly annoying fwature :/
The only way you could "search" for a game would be to guess at a name, for example "cowrun" or "tristrun" or "baalrun", but they'll have random numbers or letters... looking at the random list will give you ideas if you try this mad plan
From my experience, it is completely random, I hate when I'm about to join a game for whatever reason, but right as I click on it, it changes on me.
Of course if you want to see all the public games out there, there is a way, play HC, the when you go to join the Hell games, you will see like the 1-5 public games that are out there currently.....
if you are in normal, you only get a list of normal games. If you are in NM, you only get NM games, although you can join normal games by typing the exact name of the game (and password). If you are in hell, you only see hell games, although you can join normal and NM games if you know the name (and the password). I'm not sure, but i think games that have had people recently join it are more likely to show up on the list. For example, I don't think game that has had just one person in it for 8 hours are very likely to make it to the list. This is just completely my impression though. You can also easily reset the list and get another random list by clicking the "creat game" button, then going back by clicking the "join game" button.
