I `ve been having the same problem ever since I started and neeed to know what to do to alleviate it.
Any time im in a game and getting rushed, when im in between acts, and the movie will start,I`ll hit either ENTER on my keyboard,or LEFT CLICK on my mouse to skip it.sometimes it takes a few seconds and the game will take me to the act normally but, more often than not,I`ll get a "connection dropped" message and have to re-join the game.....what causes this and is there a way to disable the in between act movies???
I suspect the reason you're getting this is because of the time it's taking to load the movies. You can also get a connection interrupted if D2 takes a long time to restore itself after being minimized, among other things.
There's two things I can think of that you can try. The first and easier one is to copy the MPQ's from the CD's to your D2 installation directory if you haven't done so. Specificially d2video.mpq, but preferably all of them. The second option is to not perform a complete install. If you perform a multiplayer install or single player install then the game should prompt you to enter the cinematic's CD each time you pass through an act at which point you can cancel. This second option would require a re-installation of the game though, so I'd try the first one.
95% of the time I'm right, so why worry about the other 2%?

However, if you do this it will still try to play the cinematic between acts 4 and 5 (the starting expansion one) and will likely give you C/I between those acts when questing. My solution would be to either play in windowed mode (no movies at all) or used Orphan's orignal suggetsion of moving the mpq files.
Disclaimer: Orphan's suggestion is the best way.
I was having the exact same problem, and switching to windowed mode solved this and other problems for me. Granted that only saves you about ten seconds over Orphan's solution, but I've always found windowed mode to be better in many other areas as well. Adding just that little '-w' to the command prompt solved a great deal of problems for me, and this was one of them.
dont put the disk in click cancel i did the same thing for ever lol
ok,so where is it that I put in -w anyway????
Create a desktop shortcut to D2, if you don't have one already. After everything in the target value, add one single space, followed by -w
That's it. It will now run in windowed mode, whenever you use that icon to open D2.
Or buy a faster computer.
I had the same type of problem with my (very) old computer. If I didn't skip past the cutscenes fast enough, my computer would shut down D2. It had to do with the processing speed (barely met minimum requirements for the game). I haven't had that problem with my new computer.
I was having this very problem last season during the first six or so weeks. Orphan was helping me with Hell Diablo and it ocurred as it had been and he recommended I change my graphics setting to 2D and that solved the problem. Specifically going from Act 4 to 5 is where I had the most trouble.
