could somebody run me throught the situation of crafting a +2 to <character type> skills amulet please?
what character level do I need?
do i gamble the amulets?
and then i just craft the result?
I was just looking at this a couple nights ago. You need a very high level character in most cases.
The ilvl of the crafted amulet will be the average of your character's clvl and the ilvl of the original amulet you used in the recipe. More specifically it's trunc(.5 * clvl) + trunc(.5 * ilvl) where trunc truncates any fractional portion. It doesn't round, so trunc(.5 * 85) is 42.
The alvl of the +2 skills prefixes is 90, so you ultimately need trunc(.5 * clvl) + trunc(.5 * ilvl) = 90 in order to get one of those prefixes. Let's see how that works in a few cases.
- If you found the amulet in a level 85 area (ex. The Pits) from a random drop, then it's ilvl is 85. That means your clvl must be at least 96 to get a +2 skills result from the craft.
- If you found the amulet in a level 85 area (ex. The Pits) but you know for sure that a unique boss dropped it, then it's ilvl is 87. That means your clvl must be at least 94 to get a +2 skills result from the craft.
- If Hell mode Nihlathak dropped the amulet, then it's ilvl is 92. That means your clvl must be at least 88 to get a +2 skills result from the craft.
- If Hell mode Baal dropped the amulet, then it's ilvl is 99. That means your clvl must be at least 82 to get a +2 skills result from the craft.
- If you gambled the amulet , then it's ilvl is some random number between clvl - 5 and clvl + 4. That means your clvl must be at least 88 to have any chance at all of +2 skills result from the craft. Your clvl must be at least 93 to have the best chance of a +2 skills result from the craft.
In conclusion, your best bet is to use amulets dropped by Nihlathak or Baal in Hell mode. That substantially reduces the level requirement on your character. You can also conceivably use gambled amulets, but since the ilvl of a gambled amulet is random, you might not really have as good a chance as you think you do.
Blood Moor caster boots, I guess that is what happens when you send a mule out to do a man's job. For the next experiment I'll use a level 15-20 toon.
those are some godly shoes.
is 93 the best level for crafting? or does it really matter 90+?
also, has anyone tried the SoJ crafting for a high quality rare item? Is it worth it and what type of items does it produce?
