Glad to hear people still use this build. Haven't played DII in a few years now.
Thanks for a great guide.
My HC Auradin just made it to level 70 in NM Act 5 - it's been a lot of fun.
I'm glad you guys liked it and still like it.
It does look like it could use some updating, though. Like I said, I haven't played since about 2008. So I haven't changed anything from the 1.12 or 1.13 patches.
One of the big changes is OK's Iron Maiden is gone! That's huge! I just found out about it. So much of my build is centered around maintaining a tractable level of physical damage. But now you add physical to the mix and be even more deadly. That means you can max Sacrifice instead of pumping up Salvation or Holy Shield by default. I guess Faith would be even more viable and Highlords wouldn't be so much of a liability. You could probably eke out another 1k physical damage and leech a lot better, too.
Oh, and the respec would make him completely viable in the lower levels. Fantastic. There goes his two biggest weaknesses!
Any other big changes?
My HC Auradin just made Guardian at level 85 -- I alternated between Holy Shield and Sacrifice after maxing salvation for extra physical damage.
Merc was Act 1 Cold using Faith Great Bow.
I needed to quaff a regen potion from time-to-time, but otherwise I had no problem with immunes (physical, lightning or fire)!![]()
i would love to respec my pally to this build but i cant afford the gear
It took me a while, but I eventually built it up, one rune at a time. The key is getting the central gear (armor, helm, weapon, and shield) although it will cost you about 9 HR's. Once you get those, the tweaking process of collecting endgame gear can be gradual. If things haven't changed too considerably, there is a lot of gear out there that people are looking for. If you have a keen eye and then put the effort forward to find them, you can usually get a high rune for a piece of plain gear.
I remember breaking on to the scene by seeing an ethereal zerker axe that had been sitting out in the open Baal's outer chamber. I then held out and eventually sold it to a really high offer because they were in such high demand during the BotD craze.
yeah im about to take my necro through hell primarily to get the gear i need to make this build
my paladin's gone for a bit of a variation on this build, cutting the lower damage fire aura for greater survivability, i've been using COH + Rift which works quite well- proving a bit faster now that i switched rift for destruction PB (and saves you going back to repair 3 times a run!) but will likely try rift once more if i find a cadaceus. cuting out the fire resistance from build allows you to bring in the physical element, including leech benefits while im ensuring to use high-spell proc damage to capitalize on the elemental nature of this spec. would recommend trying this variation if you would like to bring in more survivability![]()
Yea, that would be a Riftadin, which is a completely different, albeit sweet, build. But as far as it having more survivability, I think that's debatable.
