Yeah, the acting was very mediocre. I think most of the money on the budget went to the special effects.
So, has anyone seen 3:10 to Yuma yet? I really do want to see it.
I saw that yesterday. I don't see western movies often, but this definitely intrigued me. I loved Russell Crowe's character, probably just because I really enjoy watching extremely cocky people on TV. I think if you are going to see any movie in theaters at the moment, go for 3:10. The end still confuses me though...
*spams just to get off the eerie thread post count*
I had this movie waiting in my DVD stash for some time now, but yesterday afternoon felt like the right time to watch it:
The Breakfast Club
I knew I've seen that movie some time before, maybe 10 years ago or so. But I also knew it was some kind of classic. Maybe not in the budget or acting kind of way, but it was probably a first in a few ways.
Five kids have to spend their whole Saturday in school, each for their own violation. What a coincidence all 5 differ so much from eachother, so that each represents some type of kid: the nerd, the bully, the sportsman, the princess and the wacko. They're not allowed to have any conversation and have to stay in their seats, but luckily the bully gets conversation started. Gradually each of the kids reveal some sort of personal history from themselves and they start to grow respect for eachother. Bottomline of the story is that the kids all don't want to live up to their parents.
I couldn't believe I actually forgot this nice little gem. It's not that great a movie and certainly hasn't got any surprise plot twists (they invented that later I guess), but still it kinda got to me. It was very low budget: 1 room, 5 kids, that's it. The acting is quite good except for a minor flaw here and there (can't blame the kids, I guess). But the build-up of the movie is what astounded me, the movie never rushes but instead really flows towards the end and never feels pushy anywhere. Just watch this one for a rainy Sunday (like all the other movies....)
quality: 7/10
fun: 6/10
Don't you forget about that movie.
Kingdom of Heaven
It was on TV and I had nothing better to do.
Well, I have to say it didn't completely fail to entertain me, there weren't any really gruesome movie sins committed (got a bit MacGyver in the battle scene in the last half, and Eva Green seems to spend this part of the film doing nothing but Gothing around anachronistically, that's probably the worst of it). I was impressed by some of the battle scenes (more accurately, some of the marching scenes just before the battles), either they really staged enormous groups of extras or they used CGI very cleverly - ie they didn't do that stupid overeager thing they usually do with CGI that tells you "hey look, you're watching CGI!".
But maybe I'm just in a generous mood because anything compares favourably with something else I recently saw:
King Arthur
Booo!!!
I didn't watch the whole thing, I missed a chunk in the middle, but ick. I kept flicking back to it waiting for a "most awful moment of movie" payoff, and I think it has to be the scene where some guy walks into a room, tosses a crossbow on the floor and says "armour piercing!".
Kingdom of Heaven is way better when you watch the Extended Edition. Just to let you know.![]()
