    American Mary

    The official blurb is:
The story follows medical student, Mary Mason, as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once admired. The allure of easy money sends Mary into the world of underground surgeries which ends up leaving more marks on her than her so called 'freakish' clientele

I wasn't really sure when I sat down to watch it what kind of movie it was going to be at all. Supposedly it is a "horror/thriller" movie, but usually horror movies are filled with gratuitous blood and guts, the plot mainly existing to navigate you from guts to boobs to guts again. That's not what American Mary is (although there's a decent amount of blood). What it is, is a sort of surreal look at the odd twists that life can take. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be disturbing or not, but I actually found it uplifting in an odd way.

If you liked Fargo or Sweeny Todd, there's a pretty decent chance you'll like American Mary. They're not really the same kinds of movies, but they have the same aesthetic sensibility.

    9/10 from me.

Funny true story, a well known Leopold on these very forums suggested an Audrey Hepburn film would be just what I needed - I already had this one on my playlist so - great minds think alike
What's amusing is I was thinking of that one. ^^ I saw that one recently and enjoyed it.

I think I started that one, but never finished.

I think that is one of the oddest reminiscences I have ever heard of, Bob. Kudos.

Dam straight - his house got trashed by a party when he was out of town in the 60's and my Grandma got hired to house-sit.

I'm Dead serious, I ate Jello made by my Grandma with Cary Grant in his summer house when I was a kid in the 60's.

Bill Cosbys been trying all his life, but he is not going to top that.

It's the extra cartilage, calcium, and protein that makes it extra-nutritious. I hear it's available in Kuru flavor.

it looks so dumb, and by that I mean the looks, the visual style doesn't quite jive with me, but not every movie has to be made with me in mind

that said I have no idea if it will actually be good, hopefully the people whom it is intended to please will be pleased

and uhoh dondrei, the recent ex-cop murder spree happening in my neck of the woods has prompted me to start posting in the mmochamp general OT forums, will I survive or will the psychotic moderators have their way with me?
