I just went out with my wife and saw Hot Fuzz.
HOT FUZZ!!!!!!
It was brilliant.
I'll see Hot Fuzz in two weeks, the plan is to see Grindhouse today, but we'll see if they sellout before I get there, it's long and only on 1 screen, so not alot of showtimes
You can't compare Shaun and Fuzz, they're both great movies but in different veins. I have to say though, coming out of the cinema I was thinking that Fuzz had been even more fun than Shaun. Possibly because it was longer. And because they referenced Point Break... OMG that was awesome...
It's brilliant. It was long, but every minute was welcome, if anything had been edited out it would've suffered for it.
"How's Lurch?"
"He's in the freezer."
"Did you say "Cool off"?"
"Uh, no, I didn't say anything actually."
"Shame."
"There was a bit you missed earlier when I distracted him with a cuddly monkey and I said, "Playtime's over" and I hit him with my Peace Lily."
"You're off the ****ing chain!"
Sublime
8/10
I am pretty impressed with this direct to DVD movie. I was going to post this in the colonoscopy thread but thought better of it. The main character just turned 40 and was going in for a routine colonoscopy. What happens after is horrific. The first half of the movie was a bit slow. After watching the movie, I understand why it was slow.
Certainly worth a rent.
Cannibal Ferox
3/10
I thougth this would be ok, but it is not even worth a rent unless you want to see the funniest cannibal death ever.
Blades of Glory (2007)
Rating: 6/10
Fun: 7/10
Two male figure skaters get into an on-ice fight and get permanently kicked out of the men's singles competitions. They find a loophole which lets them still compete in the pairs skating competition, so they try to work together to win first place in the winter sports festival.
Well it was a really funny movie, i laughed alot, but i did have a ton of complaints. It seemed kind of like alot of the jokes that would have been extremely funny were covered in the trailer, so it wasnt as funny. Some parts were just flat out hilarious, other things were just unnecessary and stupid. My biggest complaint is the supporting actor, whatshisface from Napoleon Dynamite. He played his part as Napoleon pretty well, but that doesnt give him the right to play Napoleon in every other movie he is in, i find it irritating that he acts as that same character in every movie he is in, its not even that funny. Overall its a good flick, im a Will Ferrell fan so i enjoyed it, but i have to say i enjoyed his last two (Talladega Nights and Anchorman) movies more than this one. Doesnt mean this one isnt worth seeing though.
And sorry, i havent really been much on the forums lately. Been busy with some things, ill be back on normally soon.
if you think you're going to see this (these) movie ever in your life, you need to see it in a theatre. i know for a fact that i'll buy this when it becomes available but it just wont be the same. so you have a 50,000 inch tv, big deal. you need to see this in a dark room with a bunch of strangers. the experience is not to be missed. dont let my bad ratings fool you. these movies are bad but they're intentionally bad and all the better for this intention. i loved them both and will see them again.
Grindhouse (2007)
Rating: 8/10
Fun: 10/10
since it was a double feature i'll just go over the ways the movies were done style wise. there were all the typical burns, scratches, and sound screw ups you see from 70's "B" movies. there were "missing reels" at the worst time. guts. boobs, blood, zombies, cars, car crashes, boobs, revenge, and a girl with a machine gun for a leg. many of the actors appear in both movies including kurt russel and tarentino himself (table leg through his eye!).
Planet Terror (2007)
Rating: 3/10
Fun: 10/10
military accident releases a gas into the area. zombie maddness ensues. a group of survivors band together and make their escape to freedom. standard zombie movie, really... but you cant base this movie on any other zombie flick you've ever seen. i was laughing out loud at least every 5 min. it's great you get the side story of the doctor who's misstreated and cheated on his wife. you got the town bad boy turning out to be the savior. the only thing that's missing is a zombie/shark fight.
Death Proof (2007)
Rating: 3/10
Fun: 6/10
i honsetly cant tell you for sure if this movie was that great. i know that 1) it was slower than planet terror and 2) had more of a plot. it felt like one of those movies that is just bad, that everyone knew that it was bad when they were making it, but the director wanted so much for it to be good. i believe that this feeling was intentional. this movie is the main reason i want to rewatch the whole thing. i felt like i missed something.
Trailers (2007)
Rating: */10 (cant really rate trailers for movies that dont exist)
Fun: 10/10
since there were two spoof trailers (that i remember) i wanted to mention them. one was for a knock off Halloween called...Thanksgiving. it was a slasher pic directed by rob zombie and it looked more watchable than his "real" movies to date (ps. they had a "real" preview for his remake of halloween and despite my misgivings i think it'll be at least watchable). the second preview was for a "guy that was wronged going on the revenge warpath despite trying to stay away from violence" movie called Machete staring this guy. it too looked very in theme with the rest of the movie and trailers. one scene they previewed had him opening up his trenchcoat to reveal wall to wall knives macheties which he then proceeded to use to cut everyone to bits (in the name of revenge ofc).
i had a ton of fun at this movie. i was a little drunk before we went then a friend of my buddy brought some jager that we passed around so by the time death proof started up i was a little fuzzy on what was going on. i am fairly certain if i get the chance (afternoon off from work) that i'll go again. the one thing i'm looking forward to on any DVD release are all the extra stuff, i'm sure the director comentary will be great.
sorry for the double post but i got a crap ton of my info all screwed up. i totally forgot about the "werewolf women of the SS" trailer.

Argh, spoilers...
