    H.P. Lovecraft's The Re-Animator (1985)

    Rating: 5/10
    Fun Rating: 10/10

Firstly... I dedicate this movie review to our one and only Dredd. I was thinking of you the entire time I watched this movie. And kept my hands off myself!

Oh. Mygawd. This. ****ing. Movie.... Okay, so this scientist invents an anti-death serum. Everyone has a chance at life again after they've died. And then hilarious **** ensues. Like, I was laughing at the first re-death scene because it was ridiculous.
    Spoiler

Then it opens with the title and cast members and producers, etc. This I enjoyed very much because it is something that *I* feel is no longer (or a rarity) in modern day movies. Sometimes it feels like you get a title screen and head-dive right into the movie. Sometimes you'll get a little music, some names while action is going. I enjoyed the intro- suspenseful scored music with textbook pictures of the human body, more specifically centering on the head.

So, Mad Scientist dude comes to America to finish his studies to become a doctor. He meets Good Guy and they end up rooming together at Good Guy's apt. The only reason he is rooming with Good Guy is so Mad Scientist can have access to the morgue and really do experimentation. And more hilarious **** ensues.

Honestly, the acting is not at all amazing or standout. It's borderline mediocre. The music was okay. I have no idea why I kept thinking of the scoring to Beetlejuice... The gore of the movie... YES... So graphic and bloody. And lots of nudity! Unfortunately, I had recorded this and the channel it was on censored the nudity (Chiller station) so I missed a lot of bewbs and bouncing testicles but it was still fun even with the censored bits! I wonder how much the actors/actresses were paid to pretty much wrestle naked with each other. O.o Almost reminds me of a Rammstein video but I digress... I know that today's definition of horror is completely different than back then. I mean, the original Nightmare on Elm Street was considered scary back then! I can understand how and why. And when I was going into this I had to remind myself that it is an older movie, it's probably not scary but scary for the time period... Even with what little my young brain does know, I could not see this movie being scary back in 1985!! Graphic? Most definitely! Scary? No. Not at all. And I know special effects weren't much compared to now and etc. etc. but... I did not find this movie scary at all. In fact... I laughed at just about everything. Even that one creepy head scene... Yes, Dredd, you know exactly which one I am talking about!

So if you like gory, campy, horror movie fun, this is one for you to see! Otherwise, stick with your gore porn.

HPL is turning in his post-death sun-lounger but I have to say, it was a hilarious movie. Did not take itself seriously. The nudity was tasteful and superb.

(The original written tale is one of Howard's best, btw.)

    Pacific Rim Job (2013)
    Rating: Low

Little do all the mega nerds know they are actually watching a movie about homosexuals having sex. Two men get inside a giant robot's pelvic region (pfft-hee-hee LOL) and...connect to each other to pilot it. They have to get really deep inside each other to move those hips. Oh, they go into all sorts of positions to make the magic happen. Now in the movie, it's the guy's brother because they don't want you to think it's all about homosexuality. But it is.

The guy's lover is torn away from him. Right when they were in the act of doing it! Later, he tries having robot mind sex with...a woman!
    Spoiler

For half the movie there is only one woman character because women are...ew, icky! The boys' robot has a giant chest anus. Glowing, of course. The scary rift where our hero must dare journey has an icy blue glowing vagina guarding the way. Challenges to overcome. Can the movie smash out of its steely closet in time?

Ok, as for the movie itself, it's a bowl of cliches, but a tolerable one. Of course, they overdo it with the computer screens of the future, ballooning them into holograms. Think of Photoshop with dozens of layers of neon lines stacked until you can't make any sense of it. CSI style darkness abounds with black screens and little smudges of blue and red here and there. Style over style over style. At least Robot Jox let you see the robots in daylight.

Like a certain game that came out last year, the neon and noise only distract from the action. Even the monsters have glowing neon patterns. You know who else is into that? Little girls at raves. So much for a macho movie.

    Lots of problems:
    Spoiler

Unfortunately, few giant robot movies exist, and Pacific Rim plays it too safe by borrowing story elements from those few. I haven't seen any of the Transformers movies, but I did watch reviews of them. So in the context of what's out there for giant robot flicks, Pacific Rim by default may be a watchable wiener. I mean winner.

I just feel like the crowd of macho metal heads who were into Marilyn Manson. Then we all learned that he does the makeup and dresses full time. Remember that feeling? Well it's back.

    You intolerant h8er, you!

The reviews for this movie pretty much concur with you, any homophonia aside. Think I'll wait me some Netflix love.

My son just saw Despicable Me Two (Too?). He said it was better than the original. I've heard that's legitimate...

Pretty pitiful when the best movie of the summer is a cartoon's sequel. Remind me why Hollyweird commands such high salaries?

Right before Pacific Rim came out and there was nothing but previews and ads, I kept hearing other people (internet and RL) say how excited they were for this movie. I didn't understand how as it looked dumb to me in the previews. Thank you for the review! This is one movie I will not watch.

I was visiting a friend in Minnesota this past weekend and she was super hyped on the movie. I got surprised dragged to it and tried to tolerate it. Some of the themes of it I could get behind, but similar to stillman's review, it left me with a ton of questions that seemed like they had logical answers and yet were left unanswered. It was not my type of movie to begin with, but trying to be as objective as possible it still managed to rub me the wrong way. It was hard to enjoy solely for the sake of being entertained. Meh.

When's the next Hunger Games movie?
    Spoiler Alert: Not soon enough.
