    James Bond: Skyfall

After Casino Royal I was hopeful for Daniel Craig as the new Bond.
This hope was shot down by how forgettable Quantum Of Solace was.

However, after seeing Skyfall, I'm once again liking Craig as Bond. The movie itself was very reminiscent of the older Connery / Moore bond-movies.

    8/10 points.

    Star Trek: Into Darkness
    Rating: 0/10

Mario and Luigi must save the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser. They jump and run. They also get the fire flower to throw fireballs.

It's a brainless video game. Just a whole lot of running around. Scotty hops in place while he talks. I'm not kidding. It reminds me of a certain video game about explosions that came out last year.

Star Trek is about two things: sci fi ideas and humanity. You'll find neither here. Well, there is a spherical ice cube—that's one idea. The main theme of the movie is...torpedoes. Sigh.

Spock punches now. That's his thing. The climax of the movie is Spock hitting a guy over the head with something metal. He doesn't have anything smart to say; he just motormouths at warp speed. Four words per second. Very impressive, Spock. In fact, much of the dialogue goes like this:

    “Can we do anything intelligent?”

“Lord no! We'll have to run around, and jump.”

Alright, that's not fair, so I'll give a sample of real quotes from the movie.

    Scotty: “I'm running.”
    Kirk: “Jump!”
    Scotty: “I'll call you back.”

Call? You mean like a phone call?

There are club/bar scenes. I can almost smell poop. Yes, this movie is for teenagers (with ADHD), but why does the crew act like teenagers? The movie also breastfeeds from The Wrath of Khan because the cowards who made it can't originate anything fresh or interesting. Grow some balls, you guys.

Apparently, Kirk and Spock are “friends”. They are?? I had no idea. The movie is supposed to show this sort of thing. I recall giving the first film a good score, but I now give it 0/10 like this one. Not one intelligent thing happens in this movie. It should be called Into Light Shows.

    Spoiler

    The 3D was good though.

    The Hangover Part III
    Rating: 7.5/10Fun Rating: 8/10

Okay, so I have not seen the second part. I went out with my dear friend last night and he explained the second one to me since we did not have time to see it. As long as you know a couple of important things from the second one, you will understand some jokes and references in this one.

Alan is off his meds (completely forgot he took meds to begin with) so an intervention is arranged to discuss sending him to some rehab in Arizona. So, The Wolfpack agrees to drive him there. On the way there, **** happens and begins the plot of the movie. This last installment strays from the previous two (guys go out, party, wake up having no recollection of the night before). It's more like a scavenger hunt movie. But it ties things from the first two movies together and wraps up the "loose ends". Let's be honest here, there are no loose ends. It was made because of its popularity and possible cult status (I think it's a cult film but maybe it doesn't have enough years on it to have that status yet. ^^). There were funny moments and a couple that were awkwardly funny. Rolling on the ground funny? No. Theater laughing outloud? Yes. Predictable? Mostly. The first one is still the best but if you're OCD and have to see all sequels or you're just a curious fellow, go see it. You'll chuckle at least five times.

    The Hangover Part III (2013)
    Rating: 7.5/10
    Fun: 8/10

The wolfpack have to save Doug once again after a chain of events unfolds that has been developing over the past two movies.

Its hard watching this movie and not comparing it to the first one, so automatically its disappointing since it wasn't even a fraction as good or as memorable. But with that, I did laugh a lot in the movie and I really enjoyed it, I wouldn't mind seeing it again. The weird part about the movie is that its obvious they were trying to silence the "this has been done before" comments about Part II, so the movie doesn't focus about a crazy night out and they have to solve the mystery of what happened the night before. That whole element of the movie is completely gone, and now it feels more like a comedy/adventure movie more than anything. I can see why people thought the second movie was the same thing again, but I just didn't like the complete deviation from the formula that made the movies so fun. It also felt like they tried to make the movie a little more serious, and instead of being over the top crude like the second movie, they tried to make it a story about friendship. So I found myself laughing a little less than the first two movies, but I found myself enjoying the movie for non-comedy reasons more. Like I said, I really enjoyed it and I really recommend seeing it, but it just doesn't come close to the first movie. And I really didn't like the lack of any hangovers Hangover movie idea either, I think as repetitive as it may have been to do the same thing a third time, I think the mystery of what happened the night before is a key element of the Hangover movies.

    Re: Movie Review thread.

Ok, there's far too much discussion here of new and/or quality movies in recent days. Time to remedy that.

    Legendary Amazons
    Chinese martial/historical docudrama

Rating: 2/10, but often silly enough for amusement
Starring: Almost every quality martial arts actress in China you've ever seen, including Cecilia Cheung and Xiaoqing Liu
Director: Frankie Chan (funding by Jackie Chan, unknown relation status)

This is one of those "so bad it's good" movies that I managed to watch, though I paused it and ate dinner due to the pure silly pouring from the screen. Understand that I've always enjoyed mythological martial arts flicks going back to the old "Monkey King" series on TV during the late 1970's. There may be a predecessor called "Lady Warriors of the Yang Family" but I can't be sure.

The women are gorgeous, the action is amazing 'wire-fu', and the whole is just pitiful. Costuming is gaudy in the extreme, the storyline all but impossible to follow using subtitles, and so much schtick that you could build a bonfire with it all. Plot, if it was possible to summarize, is that the loyal Yang clan has lost all male warriors including the clan leader fighting the encroaching enemy in the West (hint), and the only remaining male is a foolhardy kid. Therefore, when the Emperor orders the kid to take charge of a meager expeditionary force, the entire extended hierarchy of highly skilled women come along.

If that sounded iffy, I would have claimed Lucas plagiarized the concept for the gripping back-story of Star Wars Episode 1 from this catastrophe, but this came out in 2011.

Still, the wire-fu is great and the death scenes unintentionally hilarious - the movie is almost like some giant Chinese version of British "Panto" put on film.

Plus, face lifts notwithstanding, this woman is 60!
