My entire top 5 is basically interchangeable; I love each and every one of this games extremely much but I don't really prefer one over the other. I'm also more of a RTS player, but I definately can appreciate a good RPG/FPS/Racer.
1. D2 LoD: basically the game I've been playing the longest by far, and still it never ceases to amaze me, I always manage to find new and exciting "features" (items and builds) and approaches to things.
2. AoE (Age of Empires) and AoK (Age of Kings); basically two seperate games but I'll discuss them together seeing it's basically the same thing, only in a different time setting (ancient times <> medieval times). They rocked; they were pretty much the first two games I really could get in to, whereas the others games got boring after a week or two.
3. The original Stronghold series (Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader) from FireFly Studios, I never really liked Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends much.
4. Soldier of Fortune (1): the SP wasn't too much to brag about, but the MP was awesome, even though it definately had it's flaws. I could play it for hours on end.
5. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (+ Tribunal and Bloodmoon addons): a vast open-enden RPG which you can mod to your own heart's desires... And that's to be taken quite literally, you can build your own houses, cities or even 'continents', make your own factions, NPC's or quests... It's 100% moddable, which not too many other games out there can say.
St. Anger
1) D2:LOD (this game consumes me)
2) Earl Weaver Baseball II with Commisioners Disk (none better)
3) Civilization 3 (damn corruption!)
4) Super Techmo Bowl for NES (Bo Jackson rocked!)
5) AD&D: Treasures of Tarmin for Intellivision (a classic)
Runner ups:
Fallout (and props to Wasteland)
Tapper! (gotta love servin' beers)
Tron: Deadly Discs for Intellivision (truly unique)
Bard's Tale (high level monks kicked golem butt)
Ultima III (remember the codes for casting spells?)
Baldur's Gate (still haven't finished this game)
1. NES
2. Game Boy/DS
3. Nintendo 64
4. Gamecube
5. Wii
Computers and PS2/3 are great, but I just like Nintendo better. I've never played a game on made just for Nintendo that I didn't get obsessed with until I beat it. I like creativity over graphics in video games.
Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft deserve honor too, because their plots apeal to me a lot.
All in all, I've never really played a game that I thought was not worth the money, so it's hard to chose 5 favorite games.
1. D2 LoD
2. Half-Life
3. Neverwinter Nights
4. Cant think of any
5. See #4
I was glad to see at least a couple others knew about and appreciated Nethack: azn_apoc, Sir Lister, Reiper, jiansonz: these individuals know a good game when they see it.
I would HIGHLY recommend everyone going online and downloading it (DO NOT PLAY THE GRAPHIC VERSION, IT SUCKS BUTT). If you want a challenge, try to ascend a tourist, or a monk with never breaking any of his religious restrictions.
For those whose top lists only include high action/high end graphics etc. Please, try some of this old-school fun. You will love it.
Oh, and HOMM lovers. I noticed one person put 5 on their list. How is that game, anyone? I adore the HOMM series, easily #1 on my list of all time games, easily. I found 4 dissappointing, how is 5? It almost looks like the same layout as Warcraft III with the top down view? That would be disappointing.
I found 5 even more dissapointing than fourth
About nethack, why does graphical version suck but? I personally don't care about graphics but i always forget what those letters mean and have to check everytime :sad2:
Edit: gabriel, maybe you were talking about Falcon's eye? Then i could understand you
#1 - Nethack. (Best computer game of all time. TDTTOE!)
#2 - Civ 2
#3 - The Sims II (and the original Sims)
#4 - Age of Empires
#5 - D2 LOD
Honorable Mention:
Spyro I on the original playstation (I loved that game to death...was only fun to go through once or twice, though, so it had no staying power.)
Edit:
Man! I had completely forgotten that it existed. That was an amazing game!
(I can see the younger folks on the forum going "Earl Who? My Name is What?") LOL!
oops... sorry dbl post. I meant to edit but hit reply in my excitement!
1. Xenogears
2. Shadow of the Colossus
3. Suikoden 2
