Basically have level 17 fade on at all times, level 17 SM out.

This hits the 102% fcr breakpoint, and the 86% fhr breakpoint, life/mana will be high with stacked resists. The relative lack of DR does not worry me because of Holy Freeze slowing melee down.

What I'm worried about is the base 45%ias on doom fast enough for trap laying? And if it's really, really slow, is there anything I can do about it? I wanted to do a non-hoto setup because hoto has no base %ias.

the doom should hit the 9frame laying. the base ias is relatively high and with 45 added you should be fine on speed.

the doom can backfire on you in some cases since barbs will have an easier time dealing with you since their ww will hit more often in the slower animation. smiters shouldnt be much of a problem tho.

Do you suggest instead of putting so much into Mindblast going for more Fade (more DR?)

Also, if I do that my Mindblast will be base level 1, so should I switch to Shadow Warrior who uses whatever skills you're on and not Shadow Master who uses skills that you've put more points into?

When I put that into a speed calculator I get you at the 11fpa trap, so unless my calculator doesnt correctly do trap speed then you are hurting for speed.

if you want to use a doom the only way to get some trap speed outside of BoS would be using a phase blade, which isnt that unreasonable at 109dex( doom has -20% req), or get 45ias off your other gear.

Doom Phase Blade sounds good... will that hit the 9fpa trap laying? 10fpa isn't so bad either

And my questions on my lack of DR (and investing skill points into Fade instead of MB, which in turn changes the minion choice) remain unanswered...

doesn't necessarily have to be doom runeword, but doom comes witht the aura and +skills...

Well, in that case, getting a 2soc helm with 15ias jewels will get you 10fpa, but only an 08 valk with that setup will hit 9
