I will try to give some background information to what happened. This guy I used to occasionaly play with told us he had tried to install a third party program so he could run more then 1 copy of d2 on his computer. Said he got it from a friend 4 days earlier but that what he had gotten was a trojan. He then asked us to keep an eye for when "he" (meaning the account he had had) logged on. And "by coincidence" someone did log on to that account not too long after he told us this. Which I thought was odd in itself since hackers dont generaly wait 4 days to log on and steal someone else's items (or at least I didnt think they did). This hacker then did something I thought was a bit peculiar. He didnt simply open a game, dropped the items and left. He actualy opened several games and stayed there for hours that day. If he took the items or not I couldnt tell since all we could see was the game names, but they were passworded so no way to see what he was doing there. A couple or so days later this friend told he me had emailed blizzard and talked to someone there about his account. He provided them with the 2 email accounts he had, and the blizzard rep said the account he had given them was registered to a third email. He was told they could not provide him with the email BUT they could change it back to his own. And sure enough soon after that he logged on to that account and told us all his items were gone. The detail I'm having a hard time believing (and this is the reason I'm posting this story here) is: how likely is it that blizzard would take anyone's word in a story like this and change an account email?? because if this was the case whats to prevent someone from simply calling them, and claim to own someone else's account so this way they have access to their items?
thanks in advance for your replies![]()
IMHO, likelihood this story is true = 0.
thanks for your reply. I didnt think it was possible either. I just wanted to get other opinions because, to me, this story seemed far fetched. And I couldnt see why blizzard would take anyone's word and change an email account registration simply because the person said they owned that account.
Yes, excuse me, Mr. Bank of America, that bank balance is mine. Could you please put my SSN on the account? Thank you so much.
IMO not likely to happen, but if blizzard keeps records of the emails, they could see it was registered on another email and change it back. If you are the original owner and ask blizzard to change it back to the email it was first registered with, I don't see why blizzard wouldn't do it.. What really suprises me is that blizzard acctualy responded xD
Unbroken paragraphs tend to happen a lot. Anyway, did you friend learn to keep out away from haax?
actualy I stopped talking to him. I simply got tired of telling him that 3rd party programs wasnt the way to play this game and only lead to disaster lol. I had in fact put this story out of my mind had yet another friend's account not have gotten hacked. And this is someone I know could have gotten access to his password. Thats when I began wondering could he have taken this other friend's items because he had lost (or so he claims) his own.
But.. If the story is made up, and he didn't get hacked or it didn't happen like he said, another rather interesting psychological question pops up: Why did he tell you it went this way? What would he gain from not telling the truth? People only lie if there is something to gain or to protect themselfs..
that part is easy. you see in the past he had gotten his account banned because he used third party programs. Yes I had told him not to more then once. he went ahead. After he got his account banned I gave him items to get him started with a couple of chars. And I told him next time he got third party programs I wouldnt help him any more.
