Poison damage calculation

In a skill description it is said: Poison Damage: xx-yy over zz seconds. Does it mean that xx-yy dmg is spread over zz seconds, or is it xx-yy dmg per second over zz seconds?

xx-yy is divided over zz seconds.

100 dmg over 5 seconds is basically 20dmg/second over a period of 5 seconds.
