Lightbulb Guide to a dualdream zeal echantress

    PROLOGUE

Finally she stood against her opponent. She had never been affraid, not even of death, but what she faced now made her tremble as her thoughts shifted back to her childhood.
The aspects of avoiding battles and negotiating were early teachings, with she becoming the future queen. The power at hand to avoid battles and confuse opponents were said to be a womans way of dealing with problems. Many men however had felt the consequences of not listening to her reasening and the last thing they tasted was her steel. The old zealot had thought her the way of the sword well.

As her opponent laugh went from a shrill high-pitched sound to a low groaning she snapped back to reality. This was no time for reasoning nor silly thoughts about how she confused her weaker opponents. She finally faced the woman who haunted her nightmares for the last 15 years. She still saw her opponent as a woman although before her stood a gigantic bear. This ageless creature roamed her world long before she was born. Taking the imbue-ing stance she fastened herself for the battle yet to come. It was time to avenge her beloved villagepeople, all brutally slaughtered by those giant paws. As the bear strode at her she emptied her mind and her sword sparkled with the light from the heavens and the fires from hell. Her whole being radiated an aura of sparkles. As her thoughts grew equally dark as the thoughts from the creature coming at her, she knew this would be the hardest battle she ever was going to face.

A guide to a Dualdream zeal enchantress

There have been many posts in this forum regarding dualdreamsorceresses. The guides that exist are old and in the meanwhile there has been quite some discussion. Divided over ladder 2 and 3 i played quite some meleesorc myself and i thought it was time for a guide containing my point of view. First of all let me tell you that meleesorceresses in general are very entertaining chars. Also let me tell you that they are quite diffficult to either play and build good. There are much more factors to keep in mind then a plain caster, but when you do everything right you will be awarded with an incredible char.

    Now over to the build.

    D: Charms
E: Attack speed tables for a zealing sorceress
F: Differences to think about when focusing on PvM or PvP

    1) INTRODUCTION

This guide will cover two different builds.. The Central point in both these builds will be the fact that you are a meleesorc making use of the runeword dream (io+jah+pul) in your helm and your shield. Dream does the following:

10% Chance To Cast Level 15 Confuse When Struck
Level 15 Holy Shock Aura When Equipped
    +20-30% Faster Hit Recovery (varies)
    +30% Enhanced Defense
    +150-220 Defense (varies)
    +10 To Vitality
Increase Maximum Life 5% (Helms Only)
    +50 To Life (Shields Only)
+0.625-61.875 To Mana (Based On Character Level)
    All Resistances +5-20 (varies)
12-25% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (varies)
Why would a sorceress use this some people might ask themselves. The big catch on this is the fact that if you slap on a dream helm+shield you will be granted a lvl 30 holy shock aura. What holy shock does is two things. 1) The aura will give you a pulse that deals lightning damage, 2) The aura adds a lot of lightning damage to your melee attack.

Both 1 and 2 are being boosted by your lightning mastery. If you do closerangemelee your lightning mastery even aplies twice. You can reach higher possible damage then any other sorceress build out there.

    2) THE TWO BUILDS

Let us go on to the two builds that use those dreams.
    1) A dualdreamsorc using zeal to attack with.
    2) A dualdreamsorc shifting to a werebear and using normal attack then.

This guide will focus on the dualdreamsorc using zeal as her main attack. There is no such thing as a zealing sorc being the better build of the two. Both builds have their advantages/disadavantages. It mostly comes down to your playing style wich of the two you like best. I myself get more fun out of playing the zeal build then the bearbuild due to the fact that you can tele and still use skills like static field. Zeal is uninteruptable and will autoaim when you hold shift down and there is someone in zealing radius, wich is quite handy in pvp.
The bearbuild is limited to walking around and using normal attack, though it reaches far higher attack speeds and life with less equipment commitments. But hey , if you want an elemental damage bear you could just as well make a fireclaw druid.

Don’t expect to be told wich items to slap on and how much to put here and there in your stats and skills. As you will first realize there are many possibilities after wich you get narrowed down to a few wich will seem the best. There are many paths to follow considering all things mentioned in the next chapter.

    3) GENERAL THINGS TO KNOW

Start considering this build as a challenge, there are lots of things you need to think of when you are planning and plotting your equipment and your skill and stat setup. First of all let me tell you that your defenses on this char are more important then improving your damage output. 2 Dreams with a decent lightning mastery already does a lot of damage. Factor in an infinity merc and your damage really doesn’t need much improvement. Remember that you will have to attack closerange and therefore take more hits then any other sorc. The real challenge is to turn your sorc into a tank that can take some hits while you are in the heat of combat. This kinda means that high-end expensive charms also help out a lot here.
Things we are going to take into account in the builds are the following:

    Attack Rating
    Faster Cast Rate
    Faster Hit Recovery
    Increased attack speed
    +Skills
    Resistances
To block or not to block?
To use energyshield or not to use energyshield?
    The importance of a merc

    Attack rating:

Since you are a meleesorc you have to take into consideration that you will need attack rating.
Especially in pvp attack rating has to be high up to hit the higher defense characters. In pvm it still plays a role but it can be minimised down to a lesser need depending on your gear.

    Faster Cast rate:

When you go route 2 (bearsorc) you will have no need for faster cast rate. It is not very important but taking the following table into consideration we see that 20 or 37% is easily obtained and makes us much faster. Hitting any breakpoint above 37% can’t be reccomended because you will have to sacrafice to many other important things to gain it.

    Sorceress FCR breakpoints: 0% 9% 20% 37% 63% 105% 200%

    Faster hit recovery:

Since we stand “toe to toe” with our enemies we are bound to get hit pretty often. Better faster hit recovery will grant us time to retaliate faster or to flee from the battlefield to recover our lost health and mana. Although zeal is uninteruptable when started it still is important, for a sorcbear it’s even more important. Luckily we get huge faster hit recovery from both dreams already (40-60%). I recommoned aiming for either 60 or 86%.

    Sorc FHR breakpoints: 0% 5% 9% 14% 20% 30% 42% 60% 86% 142%

    Increased Attack speed:

As a zealing sorc you will want some increased attack speed on other items then your weapon. The maximum zealspead you can reach is 10frame initial attack and 7 frame followup zeal.
As a bearsorc only your weaponbasespeed and the ias on your weapon matters. The maximum attackspeed you can reach as a bear is a 5 frame attack

    +Skills:

+Skills means more damage off course, but next to that it will raise your enchant meaning you get a bigger ar% bonus, better battle orders when using a cta and better lycanthropy werebear lvl when using beast. +skills to all is also important on the zealsorc, you will want lvl 4 zeal to get 5 hits per zeal, but more on that later.

    Resistances:

Needless to say we aim for 75 all in hell. It can be hard considering we don’t get a whole lot of our helm and shield (40max). If all fails you will have to rely on charms. Remember that for builds relying heavily on energyshield poison resistance is more important then the others.

To block or not to block:

If you look at the dream runeword you will see that it doesn’t have increased chance of blocking or faster block rate. It means that if you don’t use other sources of increased blocking you will end up putting almost all your points in dexterity. This is not an option.
If we look at other options from wich we can get increased blocking there are only three of them.

    1) twitchtroe armor (25% increased chance of blocking)
    2) Guardian angel armor (20% increased chance of blocking, 30%fbr)
    3) Crafted safety amulet (1-10% increased chance of blocking)

The 30% faster block rate from guardian angel will bring your block animation from 9 frames to 6 frames. Twitchtroe isn’t very viable since 9 frame blocking is just too slow and annoying. More on these items later when the two builds are discussed.

To use energyshield or not to use energyshield:

Some people say energyshield is not at all viable on a meleesorc and investing in telekineses is a waste. I can say that this is rubbish. Energyshield can be very viable on your meleesorc.
    Look at it this way:
    1) You will have a high lvl warmth, since it’s a synergy for enchant
    2) You will have a high lvl teleport since you will use lightningskillers
    3) You only use mana for teleport and zeal wich both have low manacost. A sorcbear won’t even use his mana.

These 3 things together make energyshield actually pretty good for a meleesorc. Just don’t rely too heavily on it in pvm since there will be quite some manaburn. Also if you use it in pvm, DON’T get it from a staff (memory) in your stash. You will often find that you want to recast it in the middle of a battle after you just got manaburned.

Furthermore using energyshield or not is a decision made depending on your skills, equip and at what size you are able to get your manapool through equipment and charms. More about this in the separate builds section.

    The importance of a merc

Your merc is what really improves your killingspeed and even makes you a excellent killing machine in 8 player hellgames. I really can’t advice any other merc then an act 3 holy freeze merc with an infinity.

Infinity: 4 socket polearms, Ber Mal Ber Ist
50% Chance To Cast Level 20 Chain Lightning When You Kill An Enemy
Level 12 Conviction Aura When Equipped
    +35% Faster Run/Walk
    +255-325% Enhanced Damage (varies)
-(45-55)% To Enemy Lightning Resistance (varies)
    40% Chance of Crushing Blow
    Prevent Monster Heal
0.5-49.5 To Vitality (Based on Character Level)
30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
Level 21 Cyclone Armor (30 Charge

His holy freeze gives you a bit more crowd control wich you definately want, his conviction lowers light + fire resistances and removes lots of immunies. And also conviction lowers the monsters defense a great deal. In some occasions you will meet a boss that’s fire+light immune, your merc will also be able to finish him off. You will also have decent enchant wich will further enchance your merc.

Now the general things are discussed, we will start our journey with looking at the dualdream zeal enchantress.

    4) THE DUALDREAM ZEAL ENCHANTRESS:

A: Items that must be used
    B: Mandatory Skills
    C: Different Approaches
    D: Charms
E: Attack speed tables for a zealing sorceress
F: Differences to think about when focusing on PvM or PvP

A: Items that must be used

    Helm: Dream
    Shield: Dream
    Weapon: Passion
The rest is open for choice.

Passion is a runeword that works in all 4 socket weapons. It requires dol+ort+eld+lem. It does the following:

    +25% Increased Attack Speed
    +160-210% Enhanced Damage (varies)
50-80% Bonus To Attack Rating (varies)
    +75% Damage To Undead
+50 To Attack Rating Against Undead
    Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
    +1 To Berserk
    +1 To Zeal
    Hit Blinds Target +10
Hit Causes Monster To Flee 25%
    75% Extra Gold From Monsters
Level 3 Heart of Wolverine (12 Charges)

The most important thing on the weapon is zeal. Zeal will give you an autoaim attack that is faster then any other meleeattack a normal sorc can use. Zeal and the added attack rating % on the weapon will also increase your attack rating with a huge bit. Don’t mind the physical damage on it, it’s neglectable, rather focus on getting one with a good ar% bonus.

Q: Wow, this cool thingy also got +1 berserk, why not use that ,it will make all my lightningdamage magical damage doesn’t it?

A: No it won’t convert your lightning damage to magical damage, it will only convert the physical damage and since you almost do none it’s no good.

What do we have now after the compulsary items are equipped?

    1) lvl 1 zeal
    2) lvl 30 holy shock
    3) bit of life and mana
    4) 40-60 % faster hit recovery
    5) 10-40 % all resistances

    What do we want more?

    1) lvl 4 zeal for 5 hits, you get +1 skills from anni, +1 skills from battle command from your cta, so you want +1 to all skills on your equipment at least.
    2) 60% or 86% fhr, get these through your charms
    3) Maxed resistances on hell
    4) 20%fcr
    5) More life (and mana if you going es route)
    6) 30% or 45% ias on the rest of your gear

As you can see this is quite a big list to get from only your rings/amu/gloves/belt/boots and charm slots. You have to make choices but if you follow this list you can choose your own gear instead of me spoiling all the fun with me saying: “you have to wear this and that”.

    B: Mandatory Skills

There are 2 skills you have to max.
    1) Lightning mastery
    2) Enchant

    1skillpoint wonders:
    1) Static field
    2) Thunderstorm
    3) Fire mastery
    4) Shiver armor
    5) Energyshield

I am mentioning thunderstorm because you have a maxed out lightning mastery and you are going to wear 9* lightskillers a torch and an anni. You will also probably have an infinity merc.

Since you use lightskillers your static field will have a great range too. Some people will say this skill is useless because you will kill every monster in 1 or 2 hits but this skill is very handy when big groups of monsters are coming at you, like for example in the chaos sanctuary.

If you aren’t synergizing enchant at least put a single point in fire mastery.

You could get a staff with possibly thunderstorm and shiver armor and put a memory in it to gain energyshield. This will save you 6 skillpoints. I can’t recommend this if you are relying heavily on energyshield and play a lot of pvm. Manaburn will occur often and you will want te be able to recast energyshield immediately then.

I have seen some discussion of using demon limb enchant instead of maxing enchant itself but i will not take that into consideration here. Casting it every few minutes will be a burden and the slvl of it will not exceed 21. Also your not so high lvl (synergized) enchant combined with your infi merc still is an excellent tool for killing lightning immune bosses.

This means you need to spend a minimum of 43 skillpoints. This means you have around 59 skillpoints left at level 90. If you use all the 1skillpoint wonders you will have 51 skillpoints left.

    C: Different Approaches

    The pure meleeroute:

You will max fire mastery and warmth to synergize your enchant.
In your gear selection you try to balance your char out. This can be either through different approaches described beneath.

    The safety route:

    Energyshield:
You will max telekineses and use energyshield. 1 point in energyshield is enough, it will reach a decent level with all your skillers. This is only worth it when you can get a decent manapool. This means using +%mana items like sojs, frostburns and getting mana/life sc’s. Rest of your points will be divided between mainly warmth and some points in fire mastery. Warmth will provide mana regen for your energyshield as will it act as a synergy for your enchant.

If you can manage this route i strongly advocate to go this way. Your damage is already skihigh and survivability is the harder thing to get on a meleesorc. This can help you a lot with it.
In your gear selection 1 of your main priorities is getting much manaboosting stuff as possible.

    Possible gear:

Armor: Coh, Treachery for max zealspeed or 45ias/45res cham armor of the whale
Gloves: Frostburns (manaboost) or Deaths belt+ gloves or Magefists (if you don’t get fcr from anything else)
Belt: Trang belt, Tgods ,Arach, Or death belt+gloves pvm, Hsarus belt+boots pvp
    Ring1: Soj
Ring2: Soj if you have cbf from either armor or belt. Otherwise ravenfrost.
Boots: Waterwalk, Sandstorms, Hotspurs pvm, Hsarus pvp
Amulet: Metalgrid or Mara’s pvm, Metalgrid pvp

Switch: Cta+Lidless. Make sure you use life/mana sc’s and lightskillers with life. Your energyshield will be around 65-75%. Try to +- aim for life: mana = 1: 1.5 when all your gear is equipped. Also if you can’t get this with a minimum of 1000 life then you might better not go the energyshield route since then manaburn will be rather nasty.
(my sorc has 1600 life , 2200 mana after bo with a lvl 20 es (75%). I dont divide life : mana
1:3 because of the fact that you maxed telekineses and you have a high lvl warmth.

With the pvp setup using hsarus belt+boots and metalgrid you will reach around 10-11k ar if you don’t prebuff your enchant. Around 19-20k ar when you switch metalgrid/dual soj for Angelics.

Deaths gloves and belt are mentioned because they have some very nice mods.
    1) they give 30% ias, you will reach 9/8 zeal with them. You don’t need them if you get 45% ias on your armor.
    2) they give cbf, means you can wear a second soj for a better manapool and higher lvl zeal
    3) you get an additional 15 all res

They are good in combination with coh since you won’t have any other source of ias.

    Another safety route:

Armor: Guardian Angel (um or 15ias/15res jewel)
Amulet: +2 sorc, 1-10% increased blocking crafted amu with decent resi or Metalgrid
    Ring 1: Ravenfrost
    Ring 2: Ravenfrost
    Belt: Deaths set or Arachnid
Gloves: Deaths set or 20% ias res rare gloves, or Magefists
Boots: rare boots with good resistances, Aldurs, Anya’s

You are going to stat dex for max block using Guardian angel. Your Dream is best made in a tower shield since it has best base block compared to str req. Depending on the amulet you use then, you will need 167-188 dex at lvl 85. You will want 90 all res when equipped with this armor. Get these from your charms and even exchange some lightskillers for res gc’s when necesarry. With an ias/res jewel in your armor use ik-gloves + boots to reach the fastest zeal. It will give some statpoints life and ar too and leaves your belt open for an arach, so you can still get 20%fcr.
If you can’t get an ias/res jewel socket your armor with an um and just use death’s belt+gloves to settle with 9/8 zeal, then switch 1 ravenfrost for a fcr ring with nice mods (res), so you at least reach the 9fcr break.

    The Defensive route:

This is the only route in wich you will forget your holy freeze merc, you will take a defiance merc and wear high defense gear. You will Max shiver armor and get a high defensive armor. With shiver armor and defiance combined you should aim reaching 9k defense at least.
In your armor selection 1 of the main priorities is high defense

Same gear as before except for your armor.
    Armor options are:
    1) Fortitude archon, this means you don’t have to invest in chilling armor because it gives lvl 15 already. 25% fcr , up to 30 all res, 300% ed are all not bad mods.
    2) Prudence in a 2s defbugged ethereal armor. Very nice defense combined with up to 35 all res, 25fhr, some mdr, dr and self-repair off course.
    3) Stone, Except for the high defense it rather isn’t all that good for the rest. 60% fhr is overkill next to the fhr on your dreams and it only gives 15 all res.
    4) Any other high def armor with nice resists.

    The Hybrid route:

You can max frozen orb and get a lvl 17 coldmastery or higher.
Or you can max firewall/meteor and firemastery. Or you can max 2 other skills you feel like. Other examples are cold armors/ tstorm etc. Hydra can also be nice.
Best is to choose skills that do decent damage with only 50 skillpoints and not so high level and that don’t rely on faster cast rate too much.
According to the choices you make you can use a mix of lightning skillers and other skillers, depending on if you want to emphasize on melee or caster skills.
In your gear selection 1 of the main priorities is wearing as much +skillgear as possible.

You will be more fragile, but you will also have more possibilities for crowd control and ranged attacks.

    D: Charms

Annihilus, Torch. 9x lightskiller fhr/life, depending on fhr of your dreams.
Sc’s: Res, life, mana, fhr, ar. Depending on needs
Note: If you can’t get maxed res at hell then replace 1 or 2 skillers with 15all res (/life) gc’s. Also note that when you make it for duelling the anyabug applies after you die wich means your res is actually 30 lower then the charscreen indicates.

E: Attack speed tables for a zealing sorceress

    Zeal FpA IAS% tables
zeal frames for sorc: (courtesy Roguemage) . Remember that there is already 25% on the weapon itself.

[-30] speed 1-handed swinging weapon (Phase Blade), highly recommended
    11/8: 30% IAS
    9/8: 54% IAS
    10/7: 65% IAS

[-10] speed 1-handed swinging weapon (Scourge, Caduceus, Warpike)
    11/8: 70% IAS
    9/8: 109% IAS
    10/7: 129% IAS

If you can manage it go for the 10/7 zeal breakpoint with a passion phaseblade. Remember that there already is 25% ias on the runeword itself. If you cant get that much ias then at least get 30% on your gear for 9/8 zeal instead of 11/8.

F: Differences to think about when focusing on PvM or PvP

    - Attack rating. Make sure you get above 10k attack rating when you are going to duel. When you duel decent barbs and paladins you will want around 20k and at that point the only option is using angelics.
Options to gain AR are: Angelics amulet+rings, Hsarus belt+Boots, Metalgrid amulet, Ravenfrost rings, Charms, Immortal king boots, Prebuffing your enchant. In pvm AR isn’t that important , you will also be using an infinity merc that lowers enemy defenses with his aura. Around 5k should be enough.

    - FCR. The more fcr the more easy you can escape and the faster you move over the battlefield. In pvm you can get by with 0%. In pvp you will want a minimum of 20%.

    - Max block. In PvM you can get by without. In PvP you will want it, some times more then others. If you don’t use Guardian angel you could still stat for max block with an whitstans shield socketed eld. It won’t require all that much dex and will come in handy from time to time.

    - 5 hit zeal isn’t always very handy in duels. It means you have to stand still for a long time and especially vs other meleechars it can be a disaster. Vs many meleechars you will want to use “hit and run tactics” and not stand still for 5 hits.

    - The safety route using Guardian angel and/or Energyshield works best for pvp.

    - When you want to duel with this char make sure to keep a widowmaker bow in your stash wich provides you with guided arrow. It does miracles vs some “bos-using trapsins and weaker sorc and can kill every char wich has bad resistances. Vs most other chars it won’t do much damage though. The damage displayed in the charscreen when equipped with a ranged weapon isn’t correct. It is only half of it since your mastery isn’t counted twice. Don’t forget that you don’t need attack rating with guided arrow.

This is it for now. I hope to see some reactions and maybe i'll post some dueling strategies later on.

Little note from experience. I hate to say it but this is a decently good guide :P. However, the 5 hit zeal is actually far better vs melee chars, but where it can become a pain is vs garbage chars like wind druids and bone necros who use summons to bm melee chars like you. For example you could be stuck zealing a stupid bear for all 5 hits, unable to tele away as they spam nados at you. Always keep a shaft with an ias jewel around for windies one way or another.

5 hits can also be a pain vs meleechars. Vs most of them my tactic is to suprise tele on them, hit them and tele the hell out of their range. For example vs smiters i try to make em charge into a wall and use this tactic. If you do 5 hits at that point you give them loads of time to switch to smite and get a few hits in.

Well, smite isn't melee. Neither is WW, but 5 hits is better than less vs WW. I suppose you could beat smiters that way, but quite frankly there's too many of them and I'm too lazy.

I say change the font and add the fact that you can use widowmaker on switch

I don't know how to change the font since i can't edit anymore. Maybe melianor can do it. Widowmaker was already mentioned at the end as a pvp suggestion.

Vs ww i like 3 hit also better. You don't want to tank them head on, my tactic is to lure them into whirl then try to tele in at approximately the end of their whirl , get 2-3 hit zeal and tele out before they can start a new one. Off course this is easier said then done since you don't know how long their ww will be.
But anyways, getting 3 hit zeal or 5 hit zeal doesn't make a huge difference between life and death and isn't the most important thing one should focus on.

I always try to tank their whirls head on like a smiter would, because if you don't they'll edge WW you and you'll lose without doing any dmg at all.

So, if I were to make a Dual Dreamer strictly for PvM, which variant should I use?
