hey im makin a mf sorc, what would be the best equipment to use and what should i add my stats and skills too?

The cheap way to go for starters would be:
Gull dagger
Skullders armor
Splendor Shield (Eth + Lum)
Goldwrap belt (upped w/ tal + shael + pdiamond)
Tarnhelm (upped w/ tal + shael + pdiamond)
2x nagels (or other MF rings)
any mf ammy (w/ +skills preferable)
Chance Guards (upped w/ tal + shael + pdiamond)
any mf boots
This setup will give you around 400% mf. However, you will find yourself pretty weak soloing in late nightmare and hell. If you build your sorc correctly (adding a few res all gcs) & have a decent merc, you should be ok until late nightmare though.
A more expensive build:
Isted Ali Baba
Upped Skullders
Splendor Shield (blade barrier preferably)
Arachs (instead of Goldwrap for the +skill & fcr)
Shako (um socketed)
2x nagels
mf ammy with +skills
Chance Guards (upped twice)
War Travs
The above will give you slightly more mf, more killing power, and better res along with much better defense.
Or, you could just go with:
Full Tal set
Ist or pTopaz the armor & helm
Ist or facet the weapon
A pDiamond or um socketed Lidless Wall shield
2x Nagels
Sandstorm Treks, Silkweaves, or War Travs
Chance Guards (upped twice) or Mage Fist if a fire sorc
Note: Tal set has crap poison res and Treks will make up for that but Travs will give more mf. If poison isn't a problem for you, then go with Travs. If mana becomes a problem, go with Silkweaves.
This Tal setup will have the bonus of giving you nice mf, full res in hell, and the ability to kill most anything that is not immune in a very short time. If building a fire sorc (as outlined below), you should easily see 9-10k fireballs and 18-20k meteors or higher.
Along with that, a Gheeds and a few 7% mf sc wouldn't hurt either as you will now have the room available where your res charms once occupied inventory space.
STATS:
This is how I usually build my sorc's stats...
Str: 80-90 (97 if using Skullders or 120 if using upped Skullders)
Dex: None
Vit: EVERYTHING ELSE
Energy: None
Note: If you are a pure mf sorc using full Tal set, put nothing in energy. If you are not using full Tal, you may want to put 20 or 30 points in energy or you may find yourself drinking a rediculous amount of blue pots.
SKILLS:
This is the tricky part as you did not state what type of mf sorc you are planning on building. My personal favorite is a pure fire sorc (with just a dash of either Chain Light or Blizzard for added flavor) for doing Andy & Meph runs.
Fire Bolt: 20
Fireball: 20
Blaze: 1 (prerequisite)
Firewall: 1 (prerequisite)
Meteor: 20
Fire Mastery: 20
Warmth: 1
Frozen Armor: 1 (prerequisite)
Shiver Armor: 1
Telekinesis: 1 (prerequisite)
Teleport: 1
Anything left over, you could either put in Frozen Armor (for more defense) or in either Blizzard or Chain Lightning for those pesky fire immunes in the lower levels. Either is handy for hell Pit Runs with enough skill points, but both will become pretty much useless in anything past hell act 2.
However, I personally find that Blizzard works better for less points as it slows my targets and turns them into fodder for my merc (and keeps them further away from me :wink3: ). If you have a pretty decent merc that has tons of life leech and damage reduction, then definitely go with Blizzard.
Just my $0.02 worth. Good luck.
You could as well use the standart "cookie-cutter" ourfit, as:
Tal armor *ptopaz* (can be Skullder *ptopaz* if poor)
Tal ammy
Tal belt perfect
Occy *jewel mf or if rich an ist*
Shako *ptopaz*
Spirit Monarch
Raven Frost (cant stress it enough, it sucks to be frozen!)
Nagel 25-30 mf
Silkweave, Sandstorm, WT or anything
Chancies, Magefist(if fire) or Frosties(if mana problems)
Goldwrap, Arachs or (if blizz sorc) Snowclash
Hellfire Torch if can afford(makes killing that easier!)
Gheed's fortune
Anni if can afford
MF SCs if can afford.
This is an almost ideal setup. Of course, it's rather expensive with Tal armor, Torch, Anni and SCs, but certainly affordable. I myself have a sorc almost like this, only with skullders, silkweave and chancies. No anni for me, and no SCs. Still, she is very viable and good at mf. Dont remember that MF calcualting goes in diminishing returns, so having 400MF is not very much better than having 350MF.
tals set > occy/hoto/shako/ + tals armor/belt/ammy
check the stickied guide, i dont understand why people never read them.
The Truth About Tals Set
here is my advice to OP. If you are poor/not rich and you want to go single tree sorc, go blizzard. I WOULDNOT go fire tree because 1/3 of the whole diabloii world is fire immune. Because of the immunities in hell, i suggest you build a dual tree sorc. BlizzBaller or Meteorb. Both builds are stickied in the Sorc Guide thread at the top of this forum.
angryzealot, you dont put a point in static for your sorc? no matter what build you are you should put 1 pt in static, it takes away 25% of monsters life. you cannot beat that spell.
check the stickied guides... i swear no one reads them
cheers guys uve been a great help
Good point, but the point of a pure mf sorc isn't to fight 1/3 of the Diablo 2 world. The point is to get to Meph & Andy quickly and kill them quickly...not kill everything between the waypoint and your intended target (the beauty of teleport).Originally Posted by NoobXDon
Even so, considering that the 3 most popular places to mf are Andy, the Pit, & Meph, you can almost be certain that any fire immunes in these areas will be weak and can easily be handled with very few hard skill points in either chain lite or blizzard as a secondary attack (not meaning a dual sorc...I'm saying just 1 or 2 hard points in either)...and/or by your merc. Spraying a little static at immunes then blizzard (or chain lite) plus your merc will take care of even the nastiest fire immunes in these areas in very short order (except maybe fire/physical immunes). The worse thing you might encounter are dolls in Act 3 Durance, but the point is to tele to Meph, not stand around fighting those little bastards.
On the other hand, if I build a BlizzBaller or MeteOrb mf sorc, any of my main attacks will be too weak (especially if the person is fairly poor), to take out Meph & Andy in a reasonable amount of time.
The reason I personally choose a single-tree fire sorc is because I like to do my Meph/Andy runs quickly. If I built a dual tree sorc, both of my primary attacks are going to be extremely weak. Even with godly gear and charms out the wazoo, the best you can expect from a godly BlizzBaller is 10k fireballs & 3k Blizzards (that's with godly gear, not mf gear. BlizzBaller mfers are considerably weaker than that). On the other hand, my godly pure fire sorc (not my mf sorc) is looking at 21k fireballs and 42k meteors. Whereas a pure fire mf sorc can easily see 8k fireballs and 16k meteors with just full Tal set and magefists.
If I chose a pure cold mf sorc, it takes quite a while (and some rather expensive gear) to be able to deal any real damage to either Meph or Andy. If I chose a pure lite mf sorc, I have the potential to do some respectable damage but only if I have expensive gear, not to mention that a lite sorc's average damage is a bit rediculous at lower levels (4-2024 lite dmg for example).
On the other hand, you have the fire sorc. You get much more bang for your buck in regards to skill point usage, you have the potential to do some hefty damage at lower character & skill levels, and even with cheap mf gear you can make very short work of either Meph or Andy in hell. As a matter of fact, a completely naked fire sorc who has her fire skills properly maxed will still do well over 5k damage with fireball. Naked cold & lite sorcs, and by all means a dual-tree sorc, can't even come close to that.
I guess it's all a matter of taste but I personally like my mf sorcs to tele straight to Meph or Andy, give him/her about 8 or 9 quick static/fireball combos and be done with it...as opposed to getting there and being forced to spray them 20+ times because my main attacks are too weak because I built a dual tree sorc (or because I have a weak pure cold or lite sorc because I happen to be too poor for better gear...hence the point of mfing).
True, the immunes can be pesky but those little minions aren't the intended targets of a pure mf sorc (except maybe the Pit). The point of a making a good Meph/Andy mf runner is power, speed, and effectiveness. The point is to tele to your selected boss (Andy or Meph for example), quickly kill them, collect the goods, and make a new game to do it all over. A fire mf sorc gives you the raw power to do just that even if you are dirt poor.
Thanks for pointing that out. I posted those skills in my reply straight from memory and happened to forget Static. At least one hard point in Static is a MUST for any sorc of any build.Originally Posted by NoobXDon

I prefer the occy way
when I tele I have the annoying habbid of teleing into mobs
well guess what occy actually helps there
again it's all a matter of taste
EDIT: I also did the math>.>
Full tals
----------
ress:

MF 168
occy+shako

MF 268
this is without anything socketed
so with tals set you got less mf but more FHR and res
while with occy and Shako you got more power more mf but less res and FHR
so if you play defensive go tals more offensive go occy![]()
I agree with a lot of your post but I also want to say that a pure blizzard sorc is also amazing at mfing hell meph/andy/pindle, etc. She is extremely easy to build for anybody - rich or poor because maxxed blizzard, ice bolt, ice blast, glacial spike, and 10 in cold mastery does insane damage. i made a HC mf sorc and my only 2 "good" items were wizspike/whistans and i could farm hell meph all day long. again, its all based on preference at the end - some people prefer pure fire, others pure lit, others pure cold. unless you've had experience with all three, i dont think you can definitely say which one is better.Originally Posted by AngryZealot

With a pure fire mf, you don't even need +skill items to do Meph and Andy runs if your fire skills are distributed correctly (you could easily do em completely naked with a maxed fire tree but your def and res would suck). The same just can't be said for pure lite (because of low average dmg) or cold (because of low damage at lower skill levels).
