So this is an easy drop to understand. You got the 50:1 Case A drop and your intended quality was Unique. Your first sequeunce of 4 drops started either with the Executioner Sword or the Heavy Boots - and then the rest of the sequence was a No-Drop, a Junk drop (potion) and the other Unique. The fact that your sequence began with a Unique means the drops terminated after the first four!

Had your first drop of those four been the Rancid Gas Potion, you would have had the second set of four drops - and most probably would have had 3 or more uniques.

Suppose you have a hard time staying alive while running areas in your MF gear. Would it be feasible to find an area with lots of regular chests (Lower Kurast or Durance, for example), clear the area of monsters using your normal gear; then come back and open all the chests while wearing your MF gear?
This strategy would work. Is it cheesy? Well some people battle Baal and when his life bar gets very low, switch on an amulet or ring that ups their MF. It seems like the same thing to me.

And as RKC points out you can change your players setting. Monsters and bosses die at the player setting you were at when they were first spawned - but chests will pop at the player setting you are at when you pop them. So, clearing an area on P1 with "Questing equipment" and then popping chests open at P8 with MF Equipment would improve your odds. Some folks think its cheesy - but its not considered on this forum to be hacking or cheating. The major reason most palyers don't switch on new gear to open chests is that it takes a lot of time.

Didnt mean to double post but its too late to edit.
Just tried 50 of the Drifter chest runs. I got 3 mid quality set pieces. No uniques from the chest though. I know 50 isnt enough to base anything on though. I did get a runemaster from one of the champion packs near the chest. This was on players 8 by the way. Got a ton of gold and lot of charms.

It does work. Only the host can change it though.

Edit. It does not work on b.net. if that's what you mean.

Were the set pieces dropped in different runs?

This question stems from the Mino-MFO Rune Hunt going on right now. I was under the impression that the chests next to the fire rings in LK were Sparkly Chests also, but looking at the lists for each difficulty level, I didn't see them listed. These have drops similar to sparkly chests. I didn't want to read the whole post again, but are they in fact NOT sparkly chests?

If they are not, would the TC be the same as the alvl?

Not sure about the TC thing but they are NOT Sparkly chests (thats the golden ones that indeed sparkel). The ones in LK are defined as superchests. Do a search for that on the forum and you get a bunch of hits and explinations in the threads showing up
