HELP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
I would die without my TV. After the kiddies went to bed last night, I was up until 3 am watching Law & Order CI (Bravo has a whole bunch of them on Sunday nights).
I occasionally watch the news. I watch a ton of Sunday NFL football in season. I watch the playoffs of any sport, and most NCAA televised games.
Other than that, sometimes I'll catch an episode of CSI or ER with the wife.
TV pretty much just blows period. We only get 5-7 channels, but free = for me.

It's funny, I was a ST:TNG fan as a kid growing up, but when I started to develop my own taste in movies and shows, I was struck one day out of the blue with the realization that DS9 was superior to any other ST series, and within just a couple minutes I came up with a list of characteristics that made it unique.Originally Posted by Ash Housewares
1. Since the station doesn't go anywhere, DS9 is much more heavily character driven than any ST before or since.
2. ST has always been a vessel to talk about controversial topics, but DS9 really pushed the envelope with story arcs about racism, reverse-racism, genocide, terrorism, statism, and religious oppression.
3. DS9 finished what TNG started, by shattering the rather "utopian" atmosphere of the Federation and portraying a more realistic setting, I thought.

It's done. Evil TV disconnected and in my big pile of junk I use to fill up an empty corner of the room.
I put my stereo where my TV used to be. Now I can switch between the CD player and comp sound more easily. Plus, my headphones sound ****ing awesome now. I have bass! I didn't think it would do any difference soundwise, but it did.
You could just...you know..watch things you like.
Please explain why listening to music for an hour is that much better than watching television for an hour. They both serve the same purpose to me; escapism.
I'm guessing that the vast majority of us stumbled into this forum because we've all played a game where we've spent 100's of hours trying to find the illusive "ethereal crowbar of carnage with a 15% magic-find attribute". For anyone here to argue that some other form of entertainment is a waste of time just reeks of irony.
No. That's like telling poeple to play WoW in moderation. Or telling an alcoholic to have a drink on special occasions.Originally Posted by Merick
TV is habit forming. There is no moderate watching of TV once you cross the line into abuse.

1. TV is rarely as enjoyable to me as reading or listening to music. I'm nott going to pretend to speak for everyone, but that's how I feel. I didn't watch TV because I wanted to or because it was in any way rewarding. I did it out of habit.
2. The good shows are so rare and the majority of what I watch is so incredibly bad that it's just not worth it. I can choose only good music and literature, but if I want to watch TV I'm forced to make do with whatever crap I'm served.
Sounds like an easy life to me. Drosselmeier? What are you complaining about?Originally Posted by Drosselmeier

I must watch at least 5-6 hours a day. Thank God I have my computer to fill in the remaining 8 or so.
My mother went through a thing where she decided TV was a terrible addiction and we got rid of ours for years. After a few months the cravings went away and I found other things to do, read books, had real conversations, learned about things, got some fresh air and exercise. Man that sucked. Luckily this was back in the late 90's when there was bugger all on anyway.
Now it's hooked into my veins again. Choose no future, choose TV.
I think that's grounds for a divorce...Originally Posted by SaroDarksbane
