I've always used multishot with good results... better results than strafe... I'd recommend MS above Strafe.
Don't forget that Strafe is level24 for a reason and not level6.
Try a fast bow like WWS and see the results of the extremely high Pierce/DS/Amplify damage bonuses.
You cannot abuse that much with Multishot.
^ - I dont understand what you mean but WWS is not very usefull in comparing Multishot with Strafe due to the fact that its hidden damage is brought out with strafe.
Strafe:Multi:
- Better for knockback
- Better for ctc effects
- Better arrows/frame against 1-3 monsters not lined up
- Better arrows/frame against monsters when they are lined up
- Autotargets
- Strafelock
- Nextdelay
- +5 ed/slvl
- locked mana cost (11)
- Dodge or the like causes every following attack of that volly to miss
Strafe for cheap bows (aka poor players) or peaple running tight spaces ... but if you kill most monsters in 1-3 arrows why bother staying in strafelock when you can fire 1-3 multi and kill hoards in wide open areas in less then a second (assuming 7 or 8 frame multi)?
- Better arrow/frame against larger groups
- Better for hitting targets running sideways
- Better for hitting targets ofscreen
- Not locked in place for so long
- Spread of arrows depends on mouse position when clicking
- Mana cost increase with each level
- One arrow per monster per volly
- Level 10-14 is sufficent
Useing one does not exclude the use of the other ...

Yeah, what Kijya said. Using both skills is very effective even if you don't have both of them maxed.
Strafe has a few mentioned advantages like the fact that all your arrows carry the added effects to your arrows, but I think
that strafelock, the fact that strafe often misses when you get hit somewhere in the volley and that fast moving enemies tend
to evade your arrows weigh a lot heavier.
I would say that Multi > Strafe, but you do need another bow attack to finish off single monsters and small packs, like guided arrow.
For PVP, this is even more true than for PVM.
On the other hand, I've only really compared with a faith bow and a wf so maybe I'll have a different opinion with cheaper bows.
As everyone stated before, this question relies, for the most part, on your gear selection.
For example: Using a Witchwild String for strafe would be more beneficial then using a Buriza, reason being WWS casts amp damage, triggering far more often with strafe then with Multi-Shot. As for buriza it has 100% Pierce making it IMO a great bow for MS, since all arrows will pierce their targets, increasing damage on each individual monster.
If you could tell us what your zon is using it would be very useful.

Guided arrow v.1.09 is the best :-)
I prefer Strafe, it seems to trigger knockback more often than MS and it works well with Freezing arrow. However, I can't deny that MS is the ultimate in Chaos Sanctuary though, the map layout just allows MS to sweep entire areas clean.
multishot still works great for clearing out mass crowds, but strafe is king for pretty much everything else.
