I'm a poor player who doesn't spend all his time playing. Since the ladder reset I've been working towards getting a torch. I've built up my smiter, I have other characters for key runs. I've tediously traded for the items I need. I finally collected all the organs and last night I was ready. I got shockmilitia's name from these forums and asked him for help. He did most of the killing, but it was great to be there. I got a sorc torch. I moved it to my stafer zon. I moved between acts, I used town portals. She was killing like crazy and life was great. Then the game starts going slow. I think, lets get out of here and I save and exit. I have some trouble getting back on. I finally get back on. You know what happens next....
The torch is gone
Yes, Yes I know I should have saved and exited the moment the zon had the torch. Does that make it my fault? So what do I do now? Somehow going on as if the last few months were not wasted doesn't sound good enough
Btw, does anyone have the home address of someone responsible for the diablo Europe servers?
Firstly, sorry for your loss. It's incrediably unpleasant to lose items that you have worked hard to get. I know the feeling, so I really do sympathize with you on this one.
That said, let me play devil's advocate for a minute. Is it your fault, you asked? I'm inclined to say 'yes'. The instability of the realms isn't much of a secret these days. Heeding the warnings, but not acting on them is part of your responsibility.
A simple analogy would involve being told that a frying pan was hot, yet still touching it regardless. Another more complex analogy might involve being told that wearing a bike helmet can save your life, but then choosing not to. In both cases, it would have been a simple task to avoid the worst case scenario, yet if you disregard the warnings, then there's not much that can be done.
You've got to weigh the situation. You yourself mentioned that it had taken months to get to that point, so why would you decide to run the risk of losing everything you worked for?
I don't mean to sound negative here, but you did ask the question
For the record, the europe servers are hosted by a company called Telia, in Sweden. There wouldn't be much that you can do with regards to any degree of retribution though. The decline in server reliability could be attributed to many decisions made by any of the companies involved. Personally, I think Vivendi *might* be the most logical suspect, but even then I don't hold any ill will. The game is getting on in it's time, and any company needs to look to the future, otherwise they aren't going to progress at all.
95% of the time I'm right, so why worry about the other 2%?

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I might take you up on the offer of keys. I have kind of decided not to smash my computer into the floor.
And from now on I will be super careful. I think my game enjoyment vs. paranoia balance was a bit heavy on the game enjoyment side. I have to re-balance.
