^ as the title says
My upcoming bvb (i said this like a month ago... but now i have xfered the gear on and will start him 2nite)
Basically i need some help on a few gear choices
Heres the gear i have planned so far
186ed gothic sword
rcage
3pamethyst great helm
Bloodfist
Deaths sash (i prefer rare cd stat/life belt... but on my comp CBF is a must)
gtoe
Angelic combo
Rare str/ar/min/life ring
Ok so as you can see the shield choice is missing. This is because i dont know what to use. Defense and resists are useless, obviously.. especially since i will not be pumping shout or IS.
Here are some choices i have narrowed down so far
Sigs shield- 69 block +1 skill...
SBACK- only 50 block but the open wounds +50% crushing blow would make for a very offensive build
Rare +4 max 30/20 PURPLE tower//pavis (only really to match rcage...)
... and im open to suggestions
this build will have lvl 1 shout, and no IS. To compensate for the lack of defense ill be maxing battlecry... and im not gonna use Twitch either.
Also wondering if i should Pump some strength for damage or just go all out vita
Btw- his name is pLz-ClanAreEZ(for those of you on east ladder... you will get what i mean)

You're going to get PKed in every pub game you go into, you know...Originally Posted by fredsta54

Seriously though, style is everything, so walking around in general, the purple shield. When you do duels though, you should put on the cleg shield, just so people know it's you.
For the more serious duels, the bleeding is awfully nice. I think that would benifit you more then the extra 19% ctb. As long as you take the proper time between WW's to allow your opponent some time leak.
You would look like every other 1h bvb out there though, sporting a swordback.
Although if you happen to get struck by the str bug, people at least wouldn't see you sporting the rattle. It would be a lot harder to hide a swordback with it's much lower str req and all.
Still rather funnyOriginally Posted by Zodijackyl
I'd go with the Purple sheild too. Style does count. For the big duels, yeah, Sback. That 50% OW is gonna be needed. My opinion anyway. Good luck with it.

Edit: Saw you already had P Ame helm. My bad.
why would i use clegs shield? Even if i were to make a clegger id only use the sword + gloves... but i find clegs boring for bvb. I wouldnt look like every1h bvb out there... most use twitch iirc... rattle is not unheard of but far less common. OW is really nice, but i dont think i could deal with the 50 block.Originally Posted by WarlockCC
About the purple shield... i actually dont think it would look that good. A diff shade of purple than rcage... and do p amethyst helms even look purple? Regardless, yellow weapon, purple armour, and sigs shield should look pimp enough ^^
And ill have... 80ish base strength probably... unless i pump it for damage which is unlikely as of now
Fred
HAHAHA, i love your name, most clans are noob agreed
very nice build, as for shield, i'd probably just go sigon's shield or a rare 30/20 tower, you could go pavise if you have that much str
that's my opinion, btw, what realm you on and are you hc?
if you're ladder/classic/hc on east, i'd want to duel that barb after i finish my bvb
ladder sc east. I pvm on hc and duel on sc... mabye you should make a sc char to 2 to do some real pvp ^^Originally Posted by JEstevam
I dont think i will have enough strength for pavise.... ok fuc it ill use sigons for 69 block and +skill =)

i dont know if this has anything to do with it.. but personally the best iv seen use twitch/sback combo.. there is no running from it.. high def is useless angelics combo rapes it.. i dont know how your going to survive with that sword =\ but good luck with the build
adding strength for damage, is kinda silly if you ask me, considering your weapon. Im thinking the same thing really for the choice of rattlecage + nonsback shield solution.
rcage, for me anyway, is better suited to a different type of bvb, with a different play style, than the one you're making. its great when you use it as part of a system to do massive damage quickly. for instance, a barb with added strength [enough to pass 1k onehanded ww dmg] and a big bhammer [170ish] seem to perform really well when teamed up with a rcage and a nice pavise, a little increased speed, and an aggressive play style. that gives you a barb that is fast enough to make your oppenent nervous[and quickly return ww's, open wounds is almost certainly bleeding you and not your opponent], with about 3.5k life w/ BO, 1,000+ onehand ww dmg, 69% block, 50% crushing blow, and some maneauverability. a guy like this can make some jaw droppingly huge hits, and wins more duels than i ever thought he would. he doesnt come near beating everyone. anyone whose really any good will clean your clock, but he lands these massive lunatic hits that will scare the crap out of even the best guys you come across. here the added str and cb work with big ww dmg to good effect...
but, with a barb like your making, i think you're just exposing yourself by going with rcage. no matter what shield you couple it with. rcage + sback , leaves you open to taking a ton of damage faster than you can deal it out with that sword. rcage + nonsback will get you more of the block you need, but is more suited to an aggressive 'suicidal freight train' style of dueling....a style that doesnt fit your weapon/character...
i think to get this barb to hang in there with the bigger brutes and skilled bvb'ers [alot being bh barbs], you've got to avoid head - to - head dmg trading at all costs. you've got to tapdance. you've got to sneak in dmg with smart whirlwinds, smart angles. learn your range. you've got to lure your oppenent into making sloppy mistakes. ~~~i know i tend to overstate the obvious, and you've heard all this before--its simply the basics of exploiting range in bvb.....but my point is this: since the pace of the duel will be stretched out by all this tapdancing and cape waving, wearing a shield other than sback is simply not an option. you can't lilly about waiting for some sloppy brute to throw a haymaker when open wounds is bleeding youout, and not him.
anyway im rambling on here...so im going to wrap this up...
you want to know what my advice is for this character is? you're not going to like it, but here goes: basic, cheap N ez bvb stuffs, with stat placement that emphasizes vitality above all else.
Helm: 3 p ame'd helm of choice [death mask, eh?]
Armor: Twitch
Boots: Goblin toes
Gloves: +str/dex gloves if you have a nice pair to build on. otherwise bloodfists [40life and +5min dmg never hurt anyone..]
Belt: 20str 40+life belt , w/ cold dmg if there is no natural cold on your sword. if there is, try to avoid a cold belt. [why? because you should. if you need more than that, ask later. ill preach my crackpot theories upon request, and for a small donation...]
jewlry: Angelics amulet + 2 x rings
shield: swordback
Weapon: Your cool little sword [which i dig, by the way. i like obscure swords...ever seen a zwie bvb? ;o]
simple, boring gear, yes yes. now for the simple, boring build....
Build so that when all the gear listed above is equipped, you have exactly enough stats to equip you weapon. don't forget about the +stats added by the sets/uniques. build for them as well.
All the rest vitality. every last point.
[heh, I said you weren’t gunna like it…..]
and for placement of skills...max the necessesities. do what you want with the rest. up to you. choose your own adventure....
and as for dueling, the best tip i can give, and the key to winning every
duel. Simply follow this simple directive:
"Empty the health orb of your opponent by using your attacks to inflict a fatal amount of damage before you sustain a fatal amount of damage."
heh, just a bit of joking around there….
Seriously though, you know how to use him. its basic stuff. play defensively. make your oppenent bring the fight to you. exploit his mistakes. explore your range. exploit your range. love your range. be the underdog.
Consider adding a bit in increased speed for some extra maneuverability and to put a bit of spring in your step. Float like a butterfly, etc….if you play this guy right you could be truly annoying with him, and that gothic a thorn in the side of many.
