What exactly is a Tomb run?

I hear that tomb runs are the fastest way to cover the experience gap between tristram runs and baal runs for starting characters.

However, I don't know what exactly a tomb run is. Clearing out all Tombs of Tal rasha? Dueriel run? Something else?

Tomb runs are clearing out all of Tal Rasha's Tombs in Act 2, including the fake ones. This is usually done for leveling from 15-20.

Uh, I am always level 20 when I start in act 2, after a /p8 full clear of act 1.

Runs mostly apply to battle.net . In single player, on 8 players, your progress will leave you at high level for the area you are in. On battle.net, however, one mostly gets rushed, which means that one must make up for the level difference.

Well, if you're already level 20 by the time you start Act 2, then you're probably soloing the game. So Tomb runs wouldn't apply to you in this case.
