the unsynergised auras wouldn't be very effective and would have low damage. you'd be better off with an act 2 holy freeze merc using dream helm, infinity polearm and dragon armour.
If you're using a cold Ironwolf wouldn't it be better to try to enchance his attack/fcr through use of nightwings/spirit(s)/faceted items/ormus or viper?
his sword damage sucks
he never attacks physically
his spell damage sucks because of no synergies/masteries
even with the godliest equipment he's a useless paper cup
I guess you are right, Holy Fire sucks...
Awful no matter what you put on them.
They do swing their swords though. It's rare but they will do it when mobbed. And on the right build A3 mercs can be pretty dang helpful. They get you major style points.
The only way that this setup could have a certain efficiency is if your character is a paladin running a high level of conviction. I have tried an Iron wolf using a CM Sword + Griffon's eye and shield + armor loaded with lighting facet ( not all perfect ). He managed to do some decent damage at times when he did not cast the minimum damage with his lightning attack but all in all A-3 mercenaries are not that hot no matter what...
I seem to remember the light merc being bugged so that they don't do as much dmg as they should. Consequently you get better damage out of a fire or cold, and with the cold armor this makes the Cold version the best choice.
Does anyone remember exactly what was up with their dmg being bugged?
I don't know if there was any bug but as with many lighting based attack the minimum is really low which might seem at times that he's doing next to no damage
