Hello, Haven't played an Assassin since my old MA one from 1.09 using Nats set.
Built a new Bladefury/Trapper Hybrid of the sort and am going to have 17skillpoints left over(using 90 as my cap, may get a few more via gaining another level or few)
Main goals for this character are to get keys(and Runes from countess as well) The Pits, and possibly the River and Chaos Sanctuary. May also look into the Uber Body part killings as well and possibly the Ubers. Looking to have about +6-8skills total, and more on switch for pre-buffing(Master, Fade, Venom)
Current Skills:
Dragon Flight-1
Dragon Talon-5(sometimes I like to kick a little)
ShadowMaster-10
Fade-10
BladeShield-1(thought it added more than 5second a level otherwise, wasted point)
Death Sentry-20
Lightning Sentry-20
All (Pre-req)-1
Current Merc using-none(either an Act1 Merc with a goldstrike or an act2 with something of the sort with the runeword the gives meditation, as regen mana could be nice)
End gear I plan on using:
Cresent Moon Eth Ettin or Zerker Axe
Duress Armor
Orphan Set Helm
Drac Grasp
Torch and Anni
+2 all assassin Skills ammy(rare or magical depending on other mods)
Shield/Belt/Boots/Rings/Shield are currently undecided, and I'll wing them as I go depending on my needs.
I'm Looking at going Max Master, as I feel that will be more useful and the rest possibly in fade, then maybe end at 93 sometime to Max that as well. But as my knowledge of this type of assassin is limited, I don't know.
Well, it sounds like you haven't missed a beat. You managed to pick one of the strongest PvM assassins, and then did most of the setup correctly.
I'd get DTalon to 12 for the extra kick, and make sure Master is at level 18. IMHO, Venom and Mind Blast are worth a utility points (to boost your Shadow if nothing else). Other than that, the build looks solid and I'd put everything else in Lit Sentry synergies.
There are some minor tweaks I'd do to the equipment, but otherwise (as I said) it looks good. The only thing I don't see that I should see: CBF
Just double checking on this one: you do realize that the -XX% Lightning resist on Crescent Moon does not work on your Sentry traps, right? Just checking.
Insight merc would work well with your Draculs Grasp giving him nearly unlimited leech.
For weapons, I've taken to doing a trapping setup (usually dual claw or dual Spirit) as my basic setup, and a Blade Fury/Kicking setup with a shield (and max block) on the other switch.
Thanks for the reply. I do have Mindblast and Venom, forgot to list them. Way to much utility on Mindblast to never get it.
Don't actually know what CBF is. I also know that traps won't benefit from the -LightResist, the Cresent Moon was more of what was a long my lines of a useful item I could afford with mods I was looking for, I am going to try to get an Stormlash(Eth if possible, difference is damage and only useful on this build and not my zealot) socketed with a Jah eventually, using a Natures Peace for the RIP and prevent monster heal mods.
Shields I'm thinking about going an upped Mosers Blessing, as my resistances are good and that will help give me max block. I tried the HeadHunter Tropy for the good defense and 3sockets, and using a Pdiamond and 2 Elds currently only yield me with a 45%block, so something has to go up. Either its initial block rate or my Dex.
Liking the Idea of Dual Spirits on the switch, just wondering if I can get +3 Shadow skills/ w+to Master/Fade/Venom, as I'd prefer something along those lines for hunting.
Ahoy,
CBF = Cannot Be Frozen. Without it, your kicks will land much, much slower. Along with the kick speed question, are you absolutely fixed on your weapon choice? Although Blade Fury does not rely on weapon speed, your kicking does. Mostly I'm afraid that you will start kicking something, and it'll be so slow that you get a permanent bad taste for kickers.
Eth Stormlash is the best (imho) weapon for this build, and Jah the best use of a socket. Just don't use Blade Shield! It will wear down durability on eth weapons.
Avoid the Natures Peace if you can. Assassins already have Death Sentry to rid unwanted corpses. Blade Fury and DTalon are great at taking down one monster. Death Sentry is perfect for mobs once you get a body, so the combination works wonders.
How about Stormshield? It has the blocking, faster blocking, and all the PDR you could ever want. That, and you can toss in something for resists (PDiamond/Um). Up'd Mosiers or Whitstan's Guard should work also.
For your switch, I was thinking more along the lines of your +skills for trapping. The reason I mention dual spirit is how hard it is to get a +2 sin claw with useful staffmods. Buffing is fine and all, but your trap damage is (imho) much more important.
I've actually started a guide on this subject. It isn't complete, but it might answer a few extra questions:

Your build would follow nearly the same requirements as a Kick/Dancer hybrid, except you care (some) about weapon damage also.
For CBF, I'll use a ravenfrost, unless I happen to come across a Cham, and I'll probably add that to the G.Face helm.
Stormshield I overlooked majorly, that infact would be the perfect shield. It'll cap me on DR% and add some strength and various other mods as well, possibly allowing me to make a better Duress armor by having me strength(should be around 230 now, for a possible 3sock sup Shadowplate)
As for Natures Peace, I was mainly looking at one for when I face any Uber enemy if I go that route as thats where I'd get my prevent monster heal mod. My other choices for PMH would be Hwanin's Belt.
PMH doesn't work on Ubers.
However, Poison and Open Wounds do the same thing while they are active. Duress (or Up'd Goreriders) privide plenty of OW to trigger once every 8 seconds (the OW duration).
On armors, I prefer the light ones. Any elite, light armor provides you with tons of defense. Since Assassins don't have any real way to boost defense (besides Defiance mercs, and Cloak doesn't do enough) defense itself isn't as important. You are usually better off mind blasting everything, then blinding it with cloak and going in that way.
Ah..see I didn't know that PMH didn't work on Ubers, that makes life a lot easier now.
Got a Stormlash this evening for the Ist rune I found in level two of the tower of a little Fallen guy. Now to start to deck out the rest of this person.
Thanks for the tips, should be starting to rock in a bit. :flip:
