So I'm playing in a normal level game last night with my son last night and a SoJ is sold. Then another. And my son says "Dad, you gotta make a hell game!". And I say, naw, it'd take *hours* to get back on this server, .171, if I ever did. And, it takes like 80 to be sold anyway for it to pop. Never happen.
Then another.
Oh, okay, I'll _try_. 3rd game I make, and I'm on .171! Woo hoo! So, I check the op dcloneeast monitor channel, and it's only up like 23 SoJs. A few more are sold...it will take forever. Hours later, around 11:30 PM we decide to watch an episode of Monk that we'd TiVo'd. It's at 68 stones sold. But, my nearly-level-90 bowazon (not the best character for dclone, but I don't have an ideal dclone killer that's high enough) is completely outfitted with pmh, crushing blow, maxed fire and lightning resists, and lots of life charms.
12:29 AM I hear the game music you get when you're back to the channel/chat/create/join screen. Ah crap, what happened? I check, and DClone spawned at 12:02 AM. However, the server crashed at 12:29. WTF?! I can't believe it! I missed it!!!!! <cry and sigh>
Okay, here's a mature (code-wise) game. How can their servers still be crashing like that? What causes it? Anyone have a clue? And, what's the best way to kill myself? ;-) Oh, before I off myself, how do I remove from this mortal coil (anyone remember Shakespear?) those lucky bastids that were bragging how they got perfect anni's off this spawn? Musta been at least 3 people who got perfects (or so they claimed).

duping dude (henceforth known as dd, cause im a lazy typer): "I want to dupe"
server (known as s): "no, we forbid it."
dd:"I still want to dupe... maybe if I slow you down a bit."
s:"hahaha piss off they tried that we fixed it."
dd:"well in that case ill just crash you."
s:"what? no no wait noooo...*static hiss*"
thats how.
Perhaps the D2 servers use Windows?
In my experience, it can crash... anytime, for no reason at all.
LOL! Yeah, I know. Glad I use a Mac myself (I use both really, but a Mac primarily). Baranor, how does this duping problem work anyway? (Not that I can do anything to prevent it, but I'd like to understand what they are doing and how).Originally Posted by Hp_Sauce

Some duping methods involve crashing the server or causing a "rollback," something that's been exploited ever since the game came out when people used to imbue an item in Classic, crash server, and try again using same item and quest over and over. I imagine this is how most godly Classic rares came to be.
Did the servers crash? Or did you just get booted out of your game. Choose words carefullyIf you just got booted that's standard for someone idling.
But since you know to check ip's of servers i'm sure you know that already and know that you have to stay moving in the game to prevent being booted.
I think you got booted Savvi?Originally Posted by AzaZaz
You must do that bugged moving thing to stay in clone games for any length of time (e.g. when you leave you computer screen to do something else).
It used to happen to me a fair bit when I clone-hunted a few patches back, until I realised how to do the moving thing. I used 'the scroll of identity on R click with mouse button held down' trick.
thank the dupers
at least before you could keep your found items to yourself and use them if botting ruined their value
now you can't even use them because.....once you find them you get connection interrupted!
fun for all
Might as well. Without them he wouldn't have even had the chance to kill dclone.Originally Posted by Omikron8
It was a crash...a bunch of people in channel got knocked at the same time. But, the servers don't boot you anymore for inactivity anyways...they haven't done that in about 8 months or so. I have games stay up for more than a day sometimes with absolutely no activity (for better or for worse).Originally Posted by AzaZaz
