I have a better idea. Let's create a forum name - let's say "Benevolent Liberal Inc." - with a password that everyone knows - for example, "lladwillriseagain" - so we can all fill in for llad. Many people here have some of the characteristics that make an llad, but not all. Together we can make a good substitute, and I think the whole commune-style thing would make llad happy. Wherever he is...

1. Talent.
2. The ability to see the difference between right vs. wrong and left vs. right.
3. Ability to demogauge with class and a little style and grace. Like getting into a car.
4. The ability to say with creidbility "I was there, you weren't"
5. The willingness to argue for years on end that their side is right, here's why, here's how your side is failing, here's what you need to do to rectify the situation, etc.
6. A level of intelligence (not necessarily education) suffecient for the task at hand.

You all forgot:

7. The tendency to refer to people as "young man" when they don't agree with him.

That's the one I'll miss most.

I know how you feel, here in Australia I'm probably considered a conservative (though I despise John Howard) or at least an independent, but to Americans I'm a liberal.

Interestingly, dictionary.com has even devoted a usage note to it:

It's certainly a bit on the nose, but you can probably get away with it.

Not only that, but if you do a general search for the word 'demogauge', you will find that a multitude of people use that spelling without any seeming knowledge of its nonexistence.

Only thing demogauge would mean to me, is some sort of measuring device being demonstrated by a salesman.
