One caveat though - I also take with a grain of salt anyone who complains about inoffensive attention from a particular sex.

I would turn it around and ask you how you'd feel if a handsome *** man came up and complemented you on your attractiveness without having it be a come-on. Many people would take it in stride but some would be offended. Certainly, I politely acknowledge those who comment nicely on me, even if they are boys; I even put up with all the former guild-mates who try to cyber me in /tells.

Inoffensive attention is not a problem. It's when someone won't take "not interested" as an answer to their attention, or worse yet, just forces themselves on a person without any courtesy or consideration.

And it's often those groups of guys doing trash talk that egg each other on until someone (or sometimes the whole group) does something despicable, sometimes ***-bashing or rape.

There's quite the difference between someone complimenting you and someone being obnoxious and refusing to buzz off when you tell them. You seem to be trying for some sort of drift in subject here jmerv.

EDIT: I've been in a similar situation once when a girl kept hitting on me while I was in a relationship. It pissed me off bad, and the situation would have been infinitely worse if there had been some sort of aggression in the air and I was in any risk of being overpowered. Remember that us guys rarely have to worry about rape while girls sometimes need to.

Not really familiar with them - perhaps that comes as a surprise? :grin: But yeh, I've had more than enough dealings with gun- and knife-collecting wannabe military types who have obvious sexual issues. Phallic symbology & all that.

Not that people in general don't have issues, myself included - but I tend to think that when they involve potential violent content of one sort or another (not talking about slap & tickle here) then they aren't exactly healthy individuals. And no offense, but I tend to lump the vampire-goth folks in there too.

What, you think it hasn't happened repeatedly? :shocked: My wife got ticked off when she visited me at the 7th ID, and we walked through San Francisco. In fact, my guess is that <because> my looks and poise aren't accompanied by boisterous groin-scratching (well, not often) that I'm inherently assumed to be ***. Goes to show that there's immature morons on both sides of the 'fence', IMNSHO.

For the record, my homophobia comes from two sources - one is having long, curly golden locks as a child, resulting in ubiquitous 'gaywad' comments from peers, and the other is from having middle-aged men approaching me constantly. Certainly didn't stop me from being fast friends with several switch-hitters, etc.

But I chalk the obsession with stereotypes and so forth up to the emotional immaturity of Americans. And that, of course, is meat for another thread.

Oh, and it isn't like posession of guns & knives equates to phallic obsession - many American homes have 2-3 guns in a personal collection. My dad has 4-5, since he lives on a farm and shoots the varmits that plague his crops.

I'm talking about the types who have 13 bowie knives bought from 'ninja' magazines. You see them arrested every once in a while - often drippy-looking nerds with blonde goatees, who you can safely assume weren't exactly hits with the ladies.

Yeah yeah... I know all about that. Just a few days ago I used Smegs obsession with guns to prove to him that my penis is bigger than his. I was questioning wether symbology was actually a word. I looked it up and apparently it is.
