This is an excellent guide and I have built a level 85 paladin around it. But I have about 8 extra skill points right now and I can't decide what I want to do with them. The guide says to possibly put them into defiance or blessed aim, but when would I really use those auras? My question is - wouldn't it be better to just put those last few points into smite (I know, the point of this guide is 1pt smite lol) for tiny bit more damage, or into salvation to help resistances even more against meph?
Salvation is a 1 point wonder. Defiance/Blessed Aim both give passive bonuses so extra points are not wasted in them even if you never have them active.
Defiance does not give any "passive bonus", but synergises Holy shield. Since you should have Holy shield up all the time is "acts as a passive defense bonus"
Blessed Aim does have a hidden AR bonus (5% per level I think)
@Waz, Those resists are good, you won't even need to use salvation so you will benefit from Fana all the time.
The Weapon Speed Calculator posted by hypper a few post before is the one everyone is using.
@moocow: This build is usually finished around lvl 75-80, so pretty much all points after lvl 80 are "extras". Make sure you got the essentials though (Salvation, Redemption, Meditation maybe?) All nice to have 1 pt in.
How many points should I put into strength and dex? I know a lot will come from gear, but what is a good number for me to work up to by level 60? Thanks.
If you just want "a rough idea":
- Put in Dex so you always have 70% block with max Holy shield active
- 80 Str
- 20 stat points saved (until u get all your gear) - u might need these to adjust for needed Str/Dex
The above approach is optimal IMO, if you're not sure what you are going to use.
Note:
Usually people read a guide, choose a gear template based on their budget, then either they figure out the needed str/dex or they get rushed, and with all the equip in hand they add "as required"
Also: having some overhead (extra Dex/Str) gives you room to play around with different variations of equipment.
Ok so this is how my setup looks as of right now at level 85:
Weapon: Shaeled Astreon's
Shield: Sanctuary in Sacred Targe (+97 res WOOT)
Armor: Duress in Loricated Mail
Boots: Gore Riders
Helm: Guillaumes socketed with 15ias/17ed jewel
Gauntlets: Dracul's
Belt: I'm thinking T'gods, but I have nosferatu if I need more IAS
Amulet: I'm thinking Highlord's since I just found 2 in a row, but was using saracen's for +12 stats/+20 res
Rings: Ravenfrost and a ring with +29cold/+19fire&light res
Swap: Knife w/ 97 charges of level 5 life tap, Spirit Elite Paly shield
Inventory filled with life/res charms that I've picked up, nothing great. Have a 22 charge teleport ammy that I would think would come in useful.
So, I would just like to know how this setup looks. Do I have enough IAS (that german calculator was confusing), CB, resistance, all the essentials, etc.. ? Are there some things I should change (preferably cheaper or not much more expensive than what I'm using) that would make life easier? Or is this setup pretty good as is? I have about 6 keysets (easy running count/summon w/ sorc) so I'm thinking about trying ubers for my very first time soon and would like to know how you think I will fare and if there are any serious problems with my setup. Thanks so much for the help everyone! :*D
Since a Caduceus is a quick weapon anyway with a shael and your 15 ias jewel plus fanta on you wont need any extra to reach the last ias break point. Your crushing blow is more than enough, ammy get a nice res one, if you can afford mara's if not stick with saracen's, belt stick with t-gods for the light res, str and vit. Your res seems ok your cold does definitely and if you do have any problems with that just use salvation aura whilst smiting meph. What are your res in hell??? Are they all maxed?
@moocow:
You have more than enough IAS for both zeal and smite as long as you are using Fanaticism.
Unfortunately, Salvation is not really an option for you unless u get 15% more IAS (the belt only gives 10%).
You have more than enough CB. Actually, from your setup, you could even change the armor with something else.
your total CB: 35+15+33+15 = 98%
your total OW: 10+25+33 = 68% (overkill)
Even if u replace the armor (your most flexible piece of equip) you would still have 83% CB, and 35% OW.
What I suggest, is having a Treachery armor in your stash before you take on the ubers.
Treachery is relatively cheap, and you can use it for pre-buffing, or even all the time.
Don't forget that Treachery's Fade give 60 res all, and 15% Physical Damage reduction!
Without knowing your resists in Hell, it's pretty hard to know if they are enough. It depends a lot on the charms... your equipment doesn't look like it gives enough:
97 + 15 + 20 + 19 = 151 + 30 (Anya) = 181.
You need... 300 Resist all (in normal).... so even if you have nice charms...
I'm reading Treachery somewhere between the lines (either pre-buff, or even all-time use)
