Hmm has the skill changed, as i remember when i used to have a conversion/thorns pala a long time ago (they were all the rage at one point and it wasnt until i followed another pala through nightmare act 4 that i discovered the power of the hammerdin, everytime i got to where he was there was a pile of bodies, and there was me waiting 5 mins for thorns to kill one or two monsters.) that the % chance of conversion was just a flat % of every time you attacked and you didnt have to have any ar at all.Originally Posted by fredsta54

actually i know that in 1.09 i tried a conversion pally who had no AR and it would convert without actually landing hit, so i agree that it does do that
unless they fixed this with 1.10/1.11
but if that bug still exists where they go to 1 hp after converted, that would be a very interesting and cool char... good thinking
also, u could consider a crappy weapon with ignore target defense, i know there's a few of em in classic
Diggler might be an idea, fast attack, ignore defense, plus bit of resist.
As far as I remember its a very old bug, perhaps goes all the way back to 09. Here's what I know for sure (applies to 1.10)
1. You don't need to score a hit. The chance to convert is calculated "On attack", Not "On hit".
(I remember punching hell cows without a weapon for giggles, converting them, then punch them once more after the convert wears off to kill.)
2. Conversion/Thorns pallys were indeed the rage for a while because of exploiting that bug.
(The reason people preferred Thorns over the more obvious Holy Fire/Freeze/Shock is that since the last point of damage would be scored with elemental damage, you'll eventually run into immunes. No one is immune to Thorns.)
As for the unconfirmed bit, I'm fairly certain (not 100% tho) that this bug WAS indeed fixed in 1.11.
Edit: I dug through my old posts and found this. Posted April 2004.

I use that skill quite a bit.
Made this healer a long time ago, OttoOctavius, and any undead usually dies in 3 shotglasses of Holy Bolt. Even the Champs and Seis. But he couldn't take down a carver in act 1 if it wasn't for Conversion (and the bug, if it is that).
Upon stepping trough the portal in CS, I usually activate Salvation and start making a friend or two, just so I have some space to take potshots at the undead. If there are any demons left, I usually just keep converting them until Dia appears. Though in some cases I do finish them with a smite.
Some facts from experience :
You do not have to hit them, my healer has close to no AR, so there would be no way I could convert anything then. Since it is based on chance, I usually just flip on fana, because more hits equals more chances to convert.
Some monsters do not seem to have 1 life left after reverting. (They don't die after one smite and their bar looks full with only the minute smite damage otto does missing)
-= end of facts, now some more mindless dribble =-
It is also said somewhere(yes vague I know, but I just do not remember where I read it) that a monster/demon, when it reverts back, can be slain with one hit from you or your minions. I did test this with a merc, it also works. So perhaps Bliz didn't "fix" this because it is not a bug, but simply a last resort and time consuming way to be able to kill with specialist Paladins.
I first started using convert with my FoHdin, who, while leveling, could at times use some friends or be swarmed and die.
In the good old days, you could convert those stainglass windows in act 4. You could then give them aura's. Not sure if you could BO them. Probably. Like you could BO Tyreal in the River. mebbe I have some screenies of that somewhere.
Even if this thing works, you'll still need a backup to kill bosses, because the duration is very short.
