Howdy.
My aim is to have the best build to do A1-5 Norm, NM, Hell with my sorc. Gear is not too much of a concern, my main concern is the elements to choose:
I was contemplating tri-element, but that may be too far fetched - what do you all think?
Then my other thought was Fire/Light combo (meteor + nova, I've always really enjoyed nova in rushing...), although I have been reading on the "meteorb" sorc and that seams interesting as well...
Again, she has to be versatile enough to do everything, even mf runs, including the rushing and questing. NO pvp will be done with her, she is strictly utility.

if you want all around sorc, then i would say Meteorb or chainlight/orb.
but i would recomend two sorces, one for MF and one for rushes.

Rusher Full lightning sorc with infinity on merc.
i've had great success with my own version of a meteorb sorc. with an act 2 merc using reapers toll for decrip, there was nothing in the game i couldn't kill, and with ease. i also used her for countless countess (haha) runs and they were done pretty quickly; i can take out everyone else and 1 point static and let merc finish countess off.
There is no sorc build which is ideal for what you ask. Fireball will take you to trav hell probably faster than any most others (1 exception - your merc must kill the storm caster unique in nm cs, and the merc may die along the way from IM). But for the council and act 4 you need an alternative, and FO doesn't really hack it. Ideally, have a pure fire or meteorb sorc then simply switch to your eni-equipped hammerdin or windy for the council and act 4. FO/CL lacks the boss-killing ability of fireball+meteor/blizz unless you're very rich
Nice input... yea phool, I have seen in NM the Grand Vizier and Lord De Seis both be Cold Immune, and I usually have to clear all the surrounding casters then have my merc kill them... but its usually not too much of a problem as you said.
Hell is what I'm really most concerned about...
I definitely think If I choose two elements, one MUST be fire.
sofreshnclean: were there any other variants on your build other than the reapers troll on your merc?
I'm kind of wary of the cold damage, because I'd like to do pit runs with her also, but I suppose that's being two-faced about my request. So Mete-orb is the way to go for a rusher?

Care to expand on that? Is a lightning-only build really that viable for rushing? I'm thinking of gloams/souls here mainly.... A5 may be a pain with her.
Also... ancients strategies.... any tips, or will this not be a problem with good build/eqiupment?
Also, is there any way to do, instead of a split-build like "meteorb" to say have it primarily fire or light, then like 1 low-points utility spell in another element just to kill immunes, or will it never be viable to do this?

Blessed Hammer Paladins are faster if you have Enigma available. Otherwise, a maximum block Meteorb/Frozen Orb Sorceress fits nicely. Use the Obediance runeworld for a cheap and potent mercenary weapon to handle dual-immunes.
