Resocket items with the socket quest?

Well, a nice ethereal CV dropped just barely for me today. The problem is, it only has two sockets. I've been looking for a 4os polearm to make insight with for a while now. Could I resocket the CV to 4 sockets using the socket quest from act 5, or is it a lost cause?

No, you cannot add sockets to an item that already has sockets in it.

Ah, just my luck. Heh, a sup monarch just dropped too, but it had a socket in it. Ah, irony. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the help though.

Are eth monarchs worth holding on to?

I can't think of anything you can make out of an eth monarch. A Spirit for an Act 3 merc maybe?

Spirit for act 3, or a spirit for switch, to give +skills to your Call to Arms, etc.

Well eth monarchs can get somewhere 3xx def (with cube, 333 I believe) and you can give them to a merc @ act 3 so they are useful.
I think I saw someone making a phoenix in one, too, for merc.
Not sure how many people actually use them as most prefer a2 nm aura mercs.

Act 3 mercs are so terrible though, you might as well not give them a sheild, it won't make any difference.

along the same line does all difficultie levels give max sockets because i have a sup eth collisus vouge and i want to socket it should i be hoping for 4?
