Not much of a reader, but I thought I'd kick in my two cents-
Past few months I've read
All of the Song of Fire and Ice Series (George R.R. Martin... if you ever thought you might like fantasy, pick this up. The only way I can describe it is a mix between King Arthur and Tarantino.)
Just finished Jarhead a few nights ago. Very interesting, not at all like the movie. Swaffard writes much in the style of Chuck Palahniuk. Nice little stories about the Gulf War (part 1).
Started reading on the Icewind Dale trilogy (solid so far, though not on par with martin).
I would reccomend Fight Club by Chuck Palaniuk to just about anyone.
Read the book. The movie was done fairly well, just a few gems I wouldn't deny anyone of. If nothing else, you'll think a little bit.
I'd also just like to point out how much the da vinci code sucked. Not that it's not an interesting premise, trust me, it is. Great throught. Horrible book. It's written at probably a 5th grade level, and almost too much like a movie script. Example would be like-
"They opened the door and were amazed by what they saw!"
And then it just tells you on the next page. Cheap little cliffhangers.
Ooo, read Choke by Chuck Palaniuk, same guy who wrote Fight Club. Very good read.
The Jurassic Park book is very good too, much better than the movie.
I've got The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova sitting on my bedside table now. I haven't started it yet, but it looks interesting and got some pretty good reviews from respected sources.
I highly recommend Watership Down
only book i ever reread, ever (except the fifth harry potter, but that's because i honestly didn't remember the first time)
Weird, I bought my girlfriend that same book for Christmas. She's obsessed with it.Originally Posted by PatMaGroin
I've been trying to find time to read Neil Gaiman's new book Anasi Boys, but I've been getting sidetracked with grad school applications and my friend's first draft of his own novel. I'll make it eventually.
Yeah. I listened to Sate of Fear on cd during a long drive. Crichton's antagonists are unrealistically ignorant and easily befuddled. Plus he doesn't know jack about lightning.Originally Posted by Cloud_Walker
Novels I'm reading:
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner
Right now, reading "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey.
Seconded. Absolutely amazing story.Originally Posted by Echod16
